It was 6:26 am in the morning, I had just left the house for work with the fresh memory of my girlfriend saying that she loves me. I hailed a taxi and when straight to work.

I knew it that it would be a busy day filled with lots of work undone and I thought that I had to work overtime today. But something happened that I or we didn't expect.

It was 9:37 am when it had started, I was just steadly doing my desk work in my cubicle when I suddenly had the urge to take a piss. After I finished I could hear screams of people just outside and lots of them running. I wasn't sure what had happened, I thought maybe it was an eartquake but I did not feel any shaking, then I thought that maybe it was a fire but the sprinklers were not working at all. My mind was filled with all sorts of ideas.

I had to see it for my self so I opened the door and saw that the hallway was empty. I thought

"Why were people were in such a rush to get out?"

but still couldn't think of an answer. I imagined that maybe there was a shoot out but I heard no gun shot, so why?

As I walk farther down the hallway. I could hear faint growling and moaning but I still couldn't assess the situation. Walking a bit closer where my cubicle is at, I saw a splash of blood on a wall and thought that if a shooting or a hold up had happen, but still why didn't  I hear a single pistol shot. Even if a gun was added with a silencer or a suppressor the noise would just be muffled but not entirely gone. If a assassination had happen then it wouldn't scare the people that much but only draw more people to the person who was shot and even that wouldn't  bring all the people to come running down the stairs. That's when I saw it, the one thing that made the whole building empty.

An unknown creature and by my eyes it was a freak show, it was cannibalistic and I could see that cause it was eating a human right in front of me. In fear I took a nearby mug and threw it towards the creature only for it to smash into the wall. It then stood up and turned towards me, its  face sent shivers down my spine. It looked like its face was ripped off because all I saw was bones and flesh but only a little skin. It was torture for my eyes and it knew I had to end its life. I ran into a nearby cubicle taking the keyboard. I then went out and smashed the creature in the head breaking the keyboard. The creature fell to the ground, then I started kicking and stomping it head and body for a sure kill.

I looked at its  body and noticed that he was the janitor and the corpse he ate was that of my co-worker. I did not dare to look around for fear of another creature. I then took the janitor's mop and made it into a makeshift staff and with the staff he then went to the stairs.

As I went to the stairs I had to fight of two of the creatures. Each of them brutally killed and filled with scenes of gore. When I finally reached the stairs I saw another creature which looked like my boss. I had remembered all the things that I hated about my boss and without a second thought I kicked the creature down the stairs which killed it instantly.

I went down the stairs as fast as I could taking down every creature in my way. As I went down I counted 4-3-2... thinking that I was near to escaping the chaos inside the building, not knowing the disaster that was happening outside.

Reaching the ground floor I felt dread fill the room and regreted the moment I had came down. The world outside was terrifying, blood was stained everywhere, cars where scattered, loud moans and growls could be heard, and although no fire could be seen, smoke could be smelled from where was standing. And that's when it hit me, I was in for an adventure.

I went straight to the exit and saw the corpse of the security guard which had been badly mauled. I whacked it just to make sure, the body didn't move so I went nearer to the body, took the shotgun which was an Ithaca 37, and found a Walther PP and its holster. I turned the body around, saw two pistol clips, and took them..

I fled the building with all the weapons I had found. All the thoughts that were in my mind that time was that I have to find food, shelter, weapon, a way to escape, and that if my girlfriend was alive.

I wandered the streets fighting off the creatures one by one, ending their miserable lives. Checking each and every building as I pass by, looking for survivors but the whole place looked like a ghost town to me, except this ghost town was filled with creatures unknown to man but were once fellow human. As I move from building to building, a new experience came but all of them included killing something and left me feeling guilty. In my mind I wished that I could turn back time and repeat but the world is not that simple, this is why we must make and choose the what is best for us and what is best for other people.

The long day was  almost about to reach an end with the sun getting close to the highest building around. I knew I had to find a safe place to sleep but what I was worrying about was not about finding a place to sleep but if I could survive the night...
