AN: Alright, so don't ask me why, but I found myself in a serious X-Men kick. Also, Doctor Who- that story will come much later. Anyway, I thought I'd give it a try at writing a romance story for Charles and an original character. I know, I write a lot of stories with OCs but I can't help it- I like making my own characters. I just hope they don't sound too Mary-Sue.

So here is the first chapter for my new story.

"Tell me again why exactly we need this girl," Erik asked as he followed Charles into the club, the colored lights and blaring music killing his senses. They'd already recruited several other mutants. What use was one more?

"Because this girl possesses great potential with her abilities," Charles shouted back as they made their way through the dance floor. "Poor thing probably doesn't even know just how great she could become. And an ally like her could be the difference between victory and defeat against Shaw."

Erik's blood burned at the mere mention of his name, Shaw... the man who ruined Erik's life: killed his mother, tortured and experimented on him... If only he had just crushed that submarine when he had the chance. Now, he was working with a bunch of idiot humans and teenagers- hardly the ideal team. And of all the places in the country they could have gone, this god-awful dance club seemed like the last place to find a suitable comrade. 'Patience,my friend,' Charles' voice echoed in his mind.

"I hate it when you do that," Erik growled. Charles merely gave him a chuckle as they continued towards the bar.

An over-weight, balding middle-aged man nodded at them. "What do you want?" he askedim patiently while cleaning a glass.

Charles leaned forward. "We're looking for a young lady," he began, but the bartender scoffed and waved his arms around indicating the club. "A woman by the name of Jade Forman," he added.

The man gave him an odd look before shouting over his shoulder, "Hey, Forman!"

"Little busy, Virgil!" a dark-haired woman down the bar shouted back, pouring drinks and making change for the sea of customers.

"Forman, you either get your ass over here now, or good luck finding yourself a new job!" Virgil warned. Erik didn't need to read minds like Charles to see this Jade girl wasn't pleased with being bossed around. She came over anyway. "These two... gentlemen would like a chat with you. So... get chatting." Virgil gave her a leering glance and a sharp smack on her rear as he walked away; Erik saw the way her hands clenched into fists, undoubtedly wanting to wrap them around her boss's throat.

Jade huffed as she wiped down the counter. "What is it?" she barked. "Make it quick- the human stain over there will be on my case even more the longer I'm standing here talking to you."

"Ms. Forman, my name is-"

"Oh, Ms., huh?" she cut Charles off with a scoff of a laugh before leaning her hand against the counter top. "Look pal, I don't know what you and Captain Brood over here," she nodded at Erik, "are selling, but I'll save you the time- I'm not interested. And if you're here for my landlord, you can tell him that I'm not paying his insurance policy when it's my window that was broken by his stupid air conditioning." She then snapped a towel in their faces. "Now scram."

"Sounds like life's not going well, is it," Erik commented.

"About as well as every other person in the world," she bit out.

"The thing is, Ms. Forman," Charles cut in, "is that we are in need of your help with something."

"If it's how to mix a cocktail, I'm your girl. Other than that..."
