May 18th, 2012: the date that will always haunt me until the day I die. This is my story. A story that has a very somber ending. This is more than just a story, it's a real experience. My own experiences.
My full name is Clayton Tobias Gaines. I'm currently twenty-two, but I'm 17 years old in this story. I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. My friends used to call me Yukon, because I liked to spend my free time in the woodlands of Alaska. Hunting, fishing, hiking, and anything else that I can do in mother nature's garden. My father, Vincent Gaines, was and is of Alaska's most decorated gamesmen that ever lived. My mother, Carrie Gaines, was a medical assistant at Anchorage Memorial hospital at the time, so we didn't see her much. Together, they had me, my brother, Elias, and my sister Moriah. We had three dogs, Comanche, Aiko, and Eskimo. We mainly used them for hunting, but they're still very friendly. My girlfriend at the time, Courtney, and I had been together since 8th grade year and we did everything together, along with Elias and his then girlfriend, Alessia.
Every weekend, me, dad, Elias, Courtney, and Alessia used to go out hiking or hunting together. We would bring the dogs along to sniff scents out very often. Typically we looked for anything smaller than a deer, but sometimes dad would let us shoot for caribou or small bears. That was always fun.
Whenever we see mom, we usually stayed in with her and do chores around the house, like trimming the bushes, cleaning the house, and other activities that helped tidy up the house and the yard. That wasn't fun.
Five years ago, on May 16th, while our parents were gone for the week on business, the four of us went out to a wooded area by ourselves. What happened in those woods is still hard for me live down. The worst memory I have is just all of that blood...
