"Shush up, you doormat." She said barely louder than a whisper.
"Doormat? Really, your insults are getting weak. Are you feeling alright?"
"Shush up." Amy growled in response. Ophelia just giggled.
"Anyway, I need you to come over today and help me get ready for the show tonight."
"Why? Got a hot date?" She could practically hear the smirk on Amy's face.
"Yeah, if you count cotton candy. Just come over already." And with those parting words, Ophelia hung up. It was times like these she was glad her mom is gone, and her dad was missing. Not more than 10 minutes later, she heard the repetitive ringing and knew it was her best friend. She went skipping downstairs to answer it, when Amy just waltzed in like she owned on the place.
"Hello my dear, is that breakfast I smell?" She said, trying and failing at sniffing the air stealthily.
"Yeah, Leo stopped by before work, and made it for me. And you know there's none left." Ophelia grinned watching Amy's face fall.
"Yeah, but a girl can dream."
"Dream on your own time, right now I need help." Ophelia had a grim face as she said this leading to Amy's next question.
"Why do you need help?"
"Because Jake Dawson is going to be a the party."
Leo slammed the door behind him as he walked in the house. "That job is shit. Shit, I tell you." He heard Ophelia's barking laugh, and smiled lightly to himself. She then cleared her throat.
"You do realize that you just stand around all day holding a sign, right?"
"Excuse you? That is hard work, I'll have you know. We live in California, not exactly the best weather for swirling a sign all day."
"Three hours. You were gone three hours. I think you'll live." Ophelia bit back with a laugh as she responded. Leo just scowled at her.
"Hey, you get a job outside during summer and tell me how it goes. Or even get a real job." Amy said walking into the.
"I have a job!"
"You're a lifeguard at the beach. You get to constantly chill in the water, tan, and hardly anyone needs help."
"Y'all need to stop ganging up on me. This is so unfair," Ophelia pouted, "Now we have 2 hours to get ready, Leo are you staying or what?"
Leo shrugged, "I'll stay for a while, then I'll go home and get ready." With that confirmation the girls turned to head into Ophelia's room and Leo plopped down onto the couch with a loud thud. Immediately, Ophelia raced into the shower, leaving Amy to pick out their outfits an and make all the big decisions.
"So you know O's newest crush is Jake Dawson, right?" Amy called from the closet.
"Sorta hard to miss. She constantly talks about him. It doesn't make sense. He's only ever said like, three words to her." Leo replied rubbing his hand over his face in frustration. Now Jake Dawson wasn't a bad guy or anything, y'know other than the fact he played girls like instruments then snapped them in half when he was done. He dripped in charm and oozed wealth so it made since why girls like him.
"I know, but he's going to be there tonight, so just watch out."
"Why should I watch out. It doesn't bother me." Amy gave him a disbelieving look at those words.
"You know I'm not blind. Nor am I stupid. Everybody knows, Leo. It's ok to admit it."
"Admit wha-" She look at him again, cutting him off with only her eyes, "Fine, yes it is true I have a crush on Ophelia, but that's all it is. A crush. I'll get over it at some point." He continued on knowing full and well it was lie.
"Y'know I'm hoping one day you'll be brave enough to admit it to yourself. There's no point in lying." Amy just sighed and continued looking for their outfits. Leo just shrugged and looked down knowing she was right, but denying himself the truth. He wasn't in love with Ophelia. He was too young, he couldn't be in love with her. He just liked her was all. For the past 11 months and 14 days. It was completely normal, she was his best friend. Just as he was about to reply Ophelia came with her hair in a towel and large shirt of Leo's she'd borrowed. She had shorts on underneath of course.
"So A, you find anything good for tonight?" She asked with a bright smile.
"You remember the red dress you wore to my birthday?" Amy inquired, and continued not waiting for an answer, "I was thinking that, and a jean jacket. Those are in right now aren't they?"
Ophelia nodded thoughtfully, "Sounds good boss. We're gonna have so much fun tonight. You just wait."
