Once upon a time, there was a very beautiful princess who was also extremely spoiled. She lived her life over privellged and never thought of anyone but herself.
One stormy summer night, an old man came to the palace door, begging for shelter against the pounding rain.
The princess laughed in his face and refused.
However, before her very eyes, the ugly old man changed form, becoming a handsome sorcerer. She begged forgiveness, but he would have none of that.
In punishment, he turned her into a monster as ugly as she was on the inside and enchanted the entire castle with a special curse.
But, before he left, he gave the princess one last gift - a single rose - and a warning.
If the princess fell in love with someone, and he fell in love with her, before her twenty-first birthday, she would be able to turn back to human and the castle would return back to normal.
If she failed...she would be cursed in this form for the rest of her life.
With a shower of sparks, the man disappeared after the last word, leaving the young girl terrified.
Years passed, and the princess kept herself locked up in the castle, hiding from the public eye, afraid at what they'd say about her revolting looks. To her, it was impossible. As she fell deeper into depression, and the day got closer, she was certain she would never have things back to as they once were.
