I walk into the dark room, turning on the light. I grab my boots, I walk to the couch. I pull the strings on my left boot preparing for what I am about to do. Something that few dare to do. Once I was satisfied with how tight it was I knotted it and proceeded to tie the second one. This time I laced in a sheath. I look over, seeing the knife lying next to me I put it in the sheath, and stand up.

I walk over to my tool bench. Seeing my weapons laid out. A vest, which holds twelve throwing knives. A .44 Magnum, and a pile of about forty bullets.

I might as well save 'em. I thought to myself. I think I'll travel lightly today.

I grab my oak bow in my hand. Then I grab my backpack off its hangar next to my workspace. Walking towards the door to the interior of the house I grab at least fifteen arrows and stuck them in my bag tip first, zipping the bag on them. Leaving just feathers, and three more inches of dried maple exposed.

Shutting off the light I walked out of the garage and back into my house. I walked through the kitchen and what was once my living room. The furniture pushed against the windows. Through the hallway, and up the stairs, I push the door to my room open.

Chirp Chirp.

Here's a fun fact about me, I used to be a gamer. Although that was a long time ago, I wanted to remember it by naming my pet Atari. She is my hawk. She protects me we have this kind of "mind-meld". Atari tells me when I am in danger, and judging by what her screech, trill, or chirp sounds like I can tell how many pursuers I have, and whether they are human or not.

I set my bow on my bed.

"Hey, Atari, I am thinking about going and checking out the police department. It's five blocks from here." She doesn't say anything, only tilts her head to one side.

I walk to my shelf and grab my binoculars, matches, and my small cotton blanket just in case. Making sure to adjust my arrows for easy access.

In corner of my room is my window. I stroll over and open it. Then I let Atari out of her cage, placing her on my shoulder. I proceed to picking up my bow in my other hand, and exiting to the window to stand on my roof.

The sun is just rising. It is beautiful. Brilliant orange, deep yellows and robust reds. I love the outside.

When I used to go to school I was an outcast. I practiced weapons, and enjoyed nature. That was strange for a suburban teenager.

Nowadays, that would be the best possible type of person. I look out to see what was once a busy sitcom-like, suburb. Now, I could see cars cluttering the road. Hurriedly abandoned of their owners.

I turn, going around the window. Climbing over the peak of the house. Walking to the edge of the other side picking up my plank that laid in wait for me. Laying it to go onto the roof of the house next to mine. I carefully stepped onto it. Walking across it slowly, for it was a mere foot-wide. I am afraid to slip, even though this is a part of my everyday agenda.

When I am almost all the way across I hear a nearby plea.

"HELP!!"

It catches me off guard and I fall.

Hitting the ground feet first, pain surges up through my ankles and into my calves.

Thinking I should get away from anyone who could attract biters I turn and try to stand, but the pain is too much. I quickly decide not to test my luck. I lay down and continue army crawling away.

I need to get to the house on the other side of the fence. If I can get inside and upstairs, because the plank has not fallen yet. I could still get back home. Almost to the end of the fence.

"Hey! Where did you go?" Whoever he is his voice sounds honest, like he actually needs help. I can't be sure though, anybody can fake. I reach the end of the fence, crawling around it. I peek back, seeing a boy running towards me.

His hair was sandy-blond, and his eyes were as blue as the sky was. Swiftly, I creep into the bushes. Quick enough so he doesn't see me, and slow enough so that I don't catch his attention.

He slows down to a walk, in clear view I can see that he doesn't have any weapons, I've got an eye for that.

Suddenly, I hear a familiar screech, it's Atari. Both biters and more people are on their way.

Facing a harsh situation and realizing that he has no weapons. I do something drastic.
