Chapter 35: Roadie For A Day

Start from the beginning

It hadn't taken them long to reach civilization. She watched as they passed building after building, wondering when Maks would stop the car.

But just as quick as they reached civilization, they left it.

Anna watched on with curious eyes as Maksim turned down a secluded road. The dirt path was so secluded, in fact, that Anna hadn't noticed it before now.

Maksim studied Anna from the corner of his eye. He fully expected her to be badgering him with questions by now, but so far she made no inquires of where he was taking her.

He could tell she was interested to know from how her eyes were alight with excitement and eagerness.

There was something else in there as well. Maksim's heart leaped when he realized what it was.

Anna trusted him. He was sure of it. Why else would she not push to know where he was taking her?

He was leading her down a dead road for goodness sake.

Pulling over to the side of the road, Maks searched Anna's face.

Her eyebrows had risen considerably and she seemed very confused.

"Here?" He heard her ask. She was definitely confused.

"Here." He answered with a smile, as he opened the door to get out.

Before his feet could touch the ground, however, a hand caught his wrist and tugged him back inside.

"But there's nothing here..." Anna reasoned. Looking around, she saw nothing but open space and a few trees on both sides of the little road. What could they do in the middle of nowhere?

There it was again. That beautiful smile made another appearance as Maksim found humor in her ignorance.

"Exactly." He stated vaguely, while freeing himself from her grasp and exiting the car.

"Wait..." Anna ordered as she pushed the door open and followed him. "What will we do, then?"

"Whatever we want." Came his reply, as he grabbed a basket out of the trunk, as well as Anna's bag, and started walking away.

When he didn't feel her presence behind him, Maksim waved to her without looking back.

"Hurry up."

At his order, Anna's feet began to move, and soon she was hot on his heels.

By now, she realized Maksim wouldn't answer her and she would just have to wait and see what he was up to.

After they were far enough away from the car, Maksim came to a stop, causing Anna to crash into him and fall on her butt.

Maksim couldn't hide his amused expression, or rather he didn't want to, as he offered her his hand.

"Truth be told, I thought you were graceful when we first met. It seems you'll spend every moment proving me wrong."

Anna rolled her eyes, as she accepted his help. In a moment she was on her feet, but Maksim hadn't let her go. In fact, he pulled her closer to him.

Her heart started beating at an alarming rate, mostly in anticipation and awareness of him being so close.

Never once did he move as he looked at her, his eyes roaming her face. Why was he staring at her like that?

Realizing he wasn't going to kiss her, Anna took matters into her own hands.

Putting her hands on his chest, she fisted his shirt and dragged his mouth down to hers. It took him only a second to start kissing her back, and soon his hands were grabbing her wrists and removing them from his shirt.
