Patty and I had been best friends as long as I could remember. We did everything together. Patty was a strange creative girl who always had a mystery book with her. I always wanted to be like Patty, but I never was. Instead, I am a kind happy girl that couldn't function without Patty. When I got bullied, Patty was there for me. So imagine my surprise when Patty went missing. I'm getting ahead of myself lets start from the beginning.
It was a warm summer day. I had been in need of an ice cream, so I went to Patty's house. When I got there Patty had a fearful look in her eyes, but I was only thinking of the ice cream, and I didn't notice it. On the way to the local ice cream store, Patty looked around her suspiciously.
I stopped and said," Is everything ok?"
"Yeah," Patty responded.
I knew when something was up, but I didn't say anything because my heart was set on that ice cream. When we got to the store, we ordered ice cream and sat down.
"Ok listen and don't forget this ever," Patty whispered as if she was afraid someone would hear her, " I'm in trouble a lot of trouble, and I need your help."
With that, she ran outside like she couldn't handle what she had just said. By the time I got there, she was gone. I was afraid that was the last time I would ever see Patty Johnson until one day a month later. That was the day Jessica Ray moved to town. Her mind was always active and running. She could tell who you are and where you have been just by looking at you. That's the kind of mind I needed to find Patty and bring her home. At the time I had no idea who she was. I thought that she was just our new neighbor. I knocked on the door to see her. I had brought brownies.
"Hi my name is Ellie," I said, " I live next door."
"I'm Jessica but call me Jess," She said.
"These are for you," I said handing her the brownies.
"Cool," She replied then she closed the door.
I knocked again a little annoyed. No answer. I knocked again. Nothing. Finally, a minute later she opened the door and said, "what?"
"Don't you want to get to know each other we are the same age and we live right next to each other" I screamed. I get mad easy. Don't judge. Jess rolled her eyes and then followed me to my house we went into my room.
"It's a little messy," I said apologetically. Jess picked up a photo of Patty and I.
"So this is the friend," She said, " Did she go missing?"
" Yeah, " I said, " Wait how did you know that."
" Isn't it obvious. You have puffy eyes from crying that's my first clue. You have a tan line from a bracelet that says best friends, and she is perfectly healthy from the way this photo looks so I know she didn't die so here we are."
" Wow, " I said.
" Also you mom told my parents, but if you want I can help you find her," She replied.
A smile appeared on my face because now we had a chance to find Patty. This girl wasn't going to give up like the cops did.
" Now where should we start?" said Jess.
