An endless sea of people bustled across the labyrinth called London. People rushed to jobs, school and homes. But none of them were looking for it. They kept their heads up and moved towards their unclouded goal, aching to get there first, to beat others to it. They were surrounded by enemies and allies, friends and family. Nobody seemed to be truly alone.
But there was an irregularity in the melody. Someone who was out of beat.
She was looking down, pushing against the stream of people as she headed in the opposite direction. Clenched in her hand was a small embroidered purse. Steely determination filled her eyes as she moved quickly and quietly.
A booming scream sounded through the square, piercing the ears of all in its vicinity. "Stop! Thief!"
Heart in her mouth, Kaida broke out into a quick jog before speeding up and sprinting around the corner. Her mischievous green eyes glinted in the sun as the adrenaline rushed through her lithe body. Her whole body moved as one as her experience in her profession was put to good use.
Running into an alleyway, she crouched down and waited for the morons chasing her to pass. To her utter dismay they paused, peering into the entrance. Was this her punishment for all the people she had wronged over the last couple of years.
"I heard something move."
Panic was clear in Kaida's eyes as the man's silhouette grew nearer. In a moment of absolute desperation she acted.
"Look a UFO!"
Why? Why? Kaida buried her face in her hands, cheeks burning with embarrassment.
"Where!" The man questioned excitedly, hesitating before looking in all directions.
Suddenly the other man standing outside called out. "She's not here Bob. Keep moving."
Letting out a sigh of relief Kaida slid to the ground. Karma would have to send better mercenaries if it wanted her to repent. Kaida was a little disappointed at the man's obviously awful level of common sense. It was amazing that an idiot like that caught wind of her in the first place.
Picking up the purse she examined it's intricate embroidery, searching for any signs of it. Throwing it against the opposite wall in frustration Kaida screamed silently. Another dud. The information on it was probably false too. They just wanted her to do their dirty work.
There was no magic in that ancient rag.
She made her way out of the empty alleyway, making sure to grind her heeled boot into the expensive purse. She had to get home before the other kids noticed her absence. It wouldn't be good if someone started sticking their nose in her business out of the home.
