Alec knew.

He knew what his future was planned to be. He knew how his life was supposed to be set out. It's all a pattern. A simple game for him, and he's just following the rules, waiting for the win. It's such a shame that this game will never end.

He couldn't stop thinking about his family. He knew that while he was walking down the streets of Brooklyn, he had a job to fulfill. He had to get a tux for his parents business get together. He had to uphold the Lightwood name.

"Alec! Answer me!" Izzy exclaimed, snapping Alec out of his thoughts.

"I'm sorry I was... doesn't matter. What'd you ask?" Alec breathed out in a stern voice.

"I was asking you what color suit you were getting! I'm thinking more of a dark blue shade but I know you like-"

"Black. I'm getting black." Alec interrupted Izzy. His sister is huge on fashion. She normally helps Alec with what he should wear, but Alec literally never listens to her. It's always got to be something dark for him. Izzy knows this, she's only seen him in light colors once in a blue moon, which is why she always recommended dark colored clothing. As hard as she tries, Alec is incredibly stubborn and mainly only does what he wants.

"Ugh but Alec, that's so traditional. At least blue won't make you blend in with the rest of the boring society that'll be among us." Izzy complained.

"Mom and dad wouldn't like if he stood out, they want him to remain traditional and professional. Their words, not mine." Max chimed in. Izzy gave her brother a playful push, shunning him for disregarding her recommendations and for reminding Alec of who he is wanted to be, not who he wants to be.

"Let's just go into this damn suit store, get your boring, bland, traditional suit, and get out." Izzy muttered with a bland tone. Alec looked at her and let a smirk appear on his mouth, "That's more like it."

They entered through the doors of a place called Suitsupply. Alec let out a sigh almost immediately and mumbled, "Lets get this over with."

Alec was looking around the store by himself while Izzy was helping Max find an appropriate suit for him. Alec though about how lucky Max was because his parents don't expect much from him yet, being 9 years old. Max could wear a suit that had pandas all over it and his parents would think it was adorable. God forbid if Alec wore a suit that was blue like Izzy suggested, he'd be getting his ass handed to him on a silver plate. He's the oldest in the family, he's got to represent the Lightwoods the most out of his siblings, it's simply a requirement.

"Are you joking? You're telling me you don't have a suit that has a line of gold down the lapels? That's just silly." Alec heard a man at the desk exclaim. His head shot to the the direction of the sound. The man in front of the desk was fuming.

"Magnus, you come in here every week complaining about this, and every time I continuously tell you that we don't hold suits that have that design, you'd have to look online." The guy at the desk moaned out.

"And every week I tell you to add that option into your supply. I constantly notify you that I'll be checking in with you every week. It's been a month William, my threat stays the same. I will write a bad review on your website explaining that you disregarded a customers wishes and you disrespected me in a rude manor." Magnus threatened. The man behind the desk looked like he could care less, but his actions said otherwise. He nodded and said to Magnus, "I'll call my boss and tell him the order."

"Thank you, William. It's about time." with that, Magnus smiled and walked towards the exit while the man at the desk - William apparently - rolled his eyes. As Magnus was about to make a dramatic exit, his eye caught Alec's and they looked at each other with an intense stare, as if they've never seen another male before.
