Some people say that death is easy. Others say that death is just another part of life. These thoughts raced through my mind as I fell from the 20 story building. It was in slow motion. I saw two people at the top looking down at me as I reached out for them. One, the person trying to save me... and the second, the one trying to end me. The air rushed beneath me. My long brown hair flying everywhere.
Was this the end? I keep getting closer and closer to the ground. Each second may be the last of my life. Most people would be screaming in terror. But me? I just... didn't. The cold concrete ground continued getting closer to me. If I had known this would be happening I would have worn a better outfit for the occasion.
I wore my black stretch pants with my red V neck long sleeved top and black flats. Maybe I would have worn something a bit more dramatic for my death. But, I wasn't expecting this to happen. The ground was now fast approaching, not far from me. It wasn't long now.
I stared at the beautiful starry sky. The full moon was just to the right.
The darkness on the other hand, enveloped me. I closed my eyes and awaited my fate. I was only 18 years old. How could this be happening so soon?
Fear rushed through my body. I was about to hit the ground! But... I didn't. I felt a hand on my back and a hand under my knees. I was being held. I wrapped my hands quickly around whoever was holding me. I didn't open my eyes. I just embraced whoever it was. My breathing was more like gasping for air.
"It's okay..." A strong masculine voice assured me. He was almost whispering. His voice was gentle, soft and soothing.
"You can open your eyes..." He said. I slowly opened my eyes. Things were blurry at first but they soon focused. I then saw him. His nose inches from mine. A boy who looked to be my age. He had brown short hair and a clean shaved face. His cheekbones were strong and his eyes were a dark brown. His outfit consists of a red flannel and and black jeans. I was breathless.
"Who...? How...? What...?" I stammered. "It's okay... you're safe now" He said calmly. His voice was deep.
"Can you stand?" He asked. He let go of my legs and I tried to find my balance. But I ended up falling forward, and he caught me in a protective embrace. "Woah" I said as I lost my balance. "Are you dizzy?" He asked me. "Very" I mumbled. I attempted to stand on my own and I did for a minute. But as soon as I took my first step, I clasped. He caught me once again as I fell toward the ground. He lifted me back up and held me tight. I could feel my consciousness slipping away. .
"Hey stay with me" He said. I tried my best. But I could barely hold my head up. My arms were wrapped around his neck and my head was lying on his shoulder.
"Where did... the other one go?" I asked tiredly. "He's gone. And don't worry, he'll never hurt you again. I promise" He reassured. I sighed in relief. I could see the determined look on his face. I had just met this boy, and somehow I felt completely safe with him. For a split second, I was worried about going home to my parents, but then I remembered I moved out yesterday.
We continued walking until we reached a black car. I didn't know what kind of car it was, but it looked expensive. He carried me over to the passenger side, releasing my legs, he held me up with one hand and opened the door with the other. I slowly lowered myself into the car, holding onto him for support. I put on my seat belt and he closed the door. He quickly walked to the driver's side and got in. "Where are we going?" I asked faintly. "Somewhere safe" he replied.
We drove for a couple minutes. So many questions raced my mind. "Who are you?" I questioned. "My name is Pierce" He replied. "I'm Elizabeth, but people call me Liz" I said. He smirked. I began to relax, closing my eyes and feeling the wind of the rolled down window. Memories of the fall flashed across my mind. I rolled up my window, feeling uneasy. Pierce looked at me, concern on his face as he saw my discomfort. He looked as if he was going to say something, but then regained his focus to the road.
"How are you feeling?" He asked as we got closer to our destination. "A little achy but the dizziness has gone down" I admitted. "We're almost there" He replied. "Almost where!" I asked concerned. "You'll see" He replied with a smile.
We drove for another few minutes until we reached a large house. It was beautiful. It looked expensive and cleanly polished. "Woah..." I gasped. He smiled once again and parked the car just out front of the house. When we parked, I unbuckled my seat belt, and opened the door. I heaved myself up so I was standing, but holding onto the car for support. Pierce rushed around the car so he could see if I was okay. "I'm okay... " I lied. Pain rushed through my back, and my head.
"Yeah... i'm sure you are" He replied sarcastically. "I mean... you were thrown off a building" He continued. Flashbacks of what happened went through my mind.
I had been walking home, when I saw a bunch of people awing and gasping. I joined the crowd to see two people fighting. One was Pierce and the other I didn't recognize. They fought and fought. Until the other guy, got thrown into me. I fell back and got lifted off of the ground by the unrecognizable man. He held a gun to my head. Pierce stopped in his tracks. "Follow me... and she dies" He said. He then pulled me off into a building. We walked up a lot of stairs until we reached the roof. We stood at the top for a moment, until Pierce stood there with us. "I warned you" The man said. He held the gun up, until Pierce knocked it out of his hand. I fell back toward the edge while they fought. The fight was inhuman. The raced faster than a human could... they were stronger than a human was. The man went back over to me, he held me over the edge. "Not another step" The man said in a tired voice. "Fine... you win... just.. Don't hurt her. Let her go" Pierce pleaded. The man laughed. "You people are so easy" He chuckled. And he let go, sending me falling to the ground.
"Are you okay?" Pierce asked. I snapped back to reality. "Ugh... yeah" I said. He took my hand and wrapped it around his neck. He held onto the side of my waist and helped me walk. We staggered into the house. The inside hall was beautiful and antique. It smelt of musky, with a hint of vanilla. A flash of dizziness and pain went through my head again, making me collapse. Pierce picked me up and cradled me in his arms again. He carried me to the large living room. He placed me on the incredibly comfy couch and walked away for a moment. I could feel my consciousness slipping away once again. I felt a cool cloth hit my forehead.
"You'll be okay" He said gently. "It's just the trauma of the event" He explained. "How... how did you fight that guy before... you were... so fast and... strong" I said in a loopy state. "I'll explain everything later... just rest now" He replied. I closed my eyes and everything went black.
