The spoken language of Gevola is very similar to that of Earth's. Most of the mainland (excluding the Far East) speaks English, but they only speak (mainly) proper English apart from the occasional slang terms.

The Melonia Islands speak mainly French and Spanish, with the exception of Lumma, which was invaded by Tereine in the 1700s, so speaks English.

However, the written language couldn't be more different. The Gevolian Alphabet consists of many symbols, which could be likened to the Chinese language. The letters are said exactly the same way.

The words in Gevolian language are spelt the same, such as the word 'like' is not spelt as 'lyke' for example. If you translated Gevolian writing to English, it would be identical...mostly.

The names in Gevola are quite old-fashioned, with the majority of name being Latin. The main exception to this...rule as it has become known as, is The Ruby's daughter Garnet Ruby Kencittoe. No-one knows why The Ruby (as known to most people, but her real name is 'Eva') decided to call her daughter an un-Latin name, but many assume that it was because Eva lived for many years in Ckalascino, where - for the main part - they don't use Latin names.

Nicknames still exist in Gevola, it being common among many villages. Many people name their children with a name which means something that the parents wish their child to be. For example, Nicolus's (main hero in The Ruby) father is called Augustus, which means brave. Luckily for Augustus, he grew to become one of the bravest men in the history of Gevola, with the exception of his son, Nicolus Valentica.
