A tall figure dressed in a black cloak, ran through the forest. His footsteps were quiet, leading him deeper into the darkness of the trees.
He stopped and looked desperately around the area, his intention of finding a hiding place was obvious.
The sleeping toddler in his arms, stirs in her sleep, the father glancing down with love in his eyes.
His eyes grope the trees, finally finding a tree, with a small hole near its roots.
The father rushes to the tree before wrapping the toddler in a soft, wool blanket and embracing his daughter.
Tears fill his eyes as he hugs her tightly, knowing this would be the end of himself.
He kissed the toddler's forehead gently, his tears coating her soft skin.
With a broken voice, speaking in a whisper, the man said, "I will always love you Okami. I'm sorry, but this is where I leave you. My strength is no match for them. Forgive me my child. I will watch over you, doing everything in my power to lead them away. I pray you live a long, and happy life."
And with a broken sob, he placed his daughter in the hole of the tree, tears cascading down his face.
A muffled 'goodbye' escapes his cracked lips.
The man hears the angry footsteps of the guild nearby.
With one for sorrowful glance toward his child, he turn and fled, leaving his one and only loved one behind. Forever.
Okami
A sharp sting awakens me from a deep slumber. My eyes find the ones of a mischievous wolf pup.
He laughs loudly before rolling over on his back and wiggling into the cave's floor.
An exasperated sigh escapes my lips and I slowly sit up and examine my pinkie.
"Collie, I told you not to bother your sister while she is sleeping!" Came mother's hushed growl
Collie's ears fall and his face droops, tail moving between his legs. He looks up at me will sadness on his face.
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to play with you." He spoke quietly
I wipe my hand on the leaves of my bottoms and look at the pup sternly.
" Why not play with your other siblings?" I ask irritated
His ears droop more as his small muzzle turns toward the ground.
"They make fun of me. You're the only one who likes me"
"Oh hush you! They do like you, but they tease you because you don't stand up for yourself." I say patting his head softly
Collie snorts loudly through his nose, looking out at his siblings laughing and playing.
"Collie, go get your brothers and sisters. It's time for breakfast." Mother says looking at her youngest pup
Collie gets up slowly and trots over to his siblings.
The pups howl loudly and scamper into the den, trampling over me in the process.
"Pups!" Mother growls
I only laugh and pet each other their heads with a grin.
The pups turn to mother and wag their tails wildly.
I look away as mother regurgitates the meat she collected earlier this morning.
"Permission to go outside?" I now to her
"Yes, dear. When you return, I have things to discuss with you." She replies
With a curt nod, I leave the den, my eyes adjusting to the dark forest.

The full moon was out, illuminating the forest floor.
The leaves crush beneath my bare feet, and it feels cool to the touch.
I breathe in the scent of fresh air and look up to the stars.
'So beautiful.' I think as a star falls from the sky.
"Please, let me visit my rightful world. Its not that i do not enjoy the one i live in..." I say silently. "Its just that this is not my true home. I wish to live in the city, I want to find my mother and father."
With a long sigh, my eyes open and I stare at the night sky once more.
My chest begins to feet strange. Its as if a fire had been lit within me, and the heat was rising throughout my body. The feeling is comforting at first, then grows hotter.
Soon, the heat makes me break into a sweat, pain beginning to form from my arms and legs.
My mouth hurts, my head, everything hurts!
'What's happening to me? ' I think kids to myself as my body collapses to the soft, cold earth.
My fingers dig into the ground, desperate to find some sort of relief from the burning heat.
A loud whimper escapes my lips. I feel my body contort into strange shapes, encouraging a loud cry a pain.
I hear footsteps rush to my side, and look to see mother. She looks down at me with fear in her eyes, and worry written all over her face.
"I'm sorry okami. I was too late." Her ears dropped and her tail found a place between her hind legs.
The pain gets worse, my bones are moving and my skin is on fire. I feel my body moving on its own, and fear seeps through my veins.
'I'm dying, aren't i? '
My eyes squeeze tightly together as I scream in pain once more.
Suddenly, the pain is gone.
I hear a strange rapid noise, the ground smells wet.
I cautiously open my eyes, they immediately catch sight of a small at flying through the trees. Its wings match the pace of the rapid noise I hear.
Breathing.
I hear it.
My head snaps to the sound, where mother stands, looking at me with admiration and sadness.
Her breath is long, and even, I hear her heartbeat, steady on her chest.
My eyes wonder down to the ground, and I see paws.
For whatever reason, I am not afraid or surprised. I feel memories invade my mind.
"I... I remember, mother." I whisper looking up at her
She nods her head and ushers me forwards with her tail.
"Come, we should talk in our den. It is dangerous here." Came her cautious voice
I nod, following her on my four paws.
When we are back in the den, my brothers and sisters growl, believing I am a foreign wolf.
Collie ventures up to my sitting form and sniffs all around me.
"O... okami?!!" He shouts
I nod silently.
The pups look to their mother, waiting for an explanation, and so do I.
