She stood there, looking up at ten years of her life. The prettiest, most clever, loving and faithful ten years anyone could have. It was swinging sadistically to and fro in the soft breeze, the same breeze that blew her dirty blonde hair across her pale, sad face. The wood of the oak was detailed with its age, just like the friendship formed in the ten years that hung before her. The pale red and orange leaves perished and fell to the hands of time, landing softly on the green grass, the due sparkling like a newly born star creating the exact scene of a starry night. A tear ran down her cheek, and like many before it fell to its untimely death, in the depths of despair. The ten years that swung lifeless before her eyes wore a necklace of rope, and its unmatched beauty was brought down from the heavens by the red rash that cursed its neck forever. Those ten years were Isla Green, and those ten years, were dead.

ten years before.

It was Summer and everyone who had friends were with them, but she didn't seem too bothered about friends. No-one bullied or blamed her for not being sociable because she had no reason to be, she was still upset by her mother's death. Her life was full of death, everybody knew it and didn't question it, it was like an untouchable curiosity that couldn't be questioned, a solid line that if one tried to cross, turned into a 50ft spiked wall littered with the bodies of those who had gone too far. Thats what made her so fragile, the brittle china doll that if touched would smash into millions of shards, broken by life and its sorrowful hardships it pressed upon her shoulders, mounting pressure that one day would break her. Little did she know that that day sat next to her right then and it turned and looked straight at her.

Isla Green, a popular, modest and bright young lady who would shy from the limelight even when she was confident with what she quietly brewed in her mind. Isla Green, or green island, is what her name meant, ironically had green eyes, which almost glowed with exhuberance, the opposite of her timid petite features, beautiful with innocence. Yet, while working solidly, her eyes moving agitated by the lack understanding, did not see the future, or what was to come of all this work, or of the tragically ended friendship she was going to bestow upon her neighbor.
