My first day at Hogwarts had arrived. Only last week was I at a crap school being force fed slop. But now everything has changed for the better. This last week seems to have flown by; Firstly, I received my letter from Hogwarts, I didn't really know what it was in fact, you see my parents are 'muggles' (if that's what they call them). They had a hard time believing at all until some half giant called Hagrid came by to take me to a place called diagonalley. (you should have seen their faces when this guy stepped through, or should I say knocked down our front door!)  Diagonally was pretty cute, filled with stuff I needed for school. However mostly it consisted of a ton of cute animals, I just wanted to squidge their little cheeks! Dawwwwww! We went to so many shops, Hagrid was so helpful, we bought my robes, which may I add are so dull. We also went to buy a pet, of course I chose a cat. As soon as I walked through that door I just fell in love with him. He is super shiny with black and white fur, beautiful green eyes and a gorgeous, wet, pink nose!!  We bought all the relevant books i needed for school including Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and The Monster Book Of Monsters. But of course, despite there being cats involved, my favourite thing by far was the wand.

I entered Mr Ollivanders wand shop at about two in the afternoon, alone as Hagrid had some business to attend to. The bell rang as I pushed the door open, and I was immediately hit with the smell of must. The sound from outside seemed to diminish as the door closed behind me, leaving me in total silence. Well not total silence. In the far corner, behind the table which held the till was an old man snoring, his head resting on his wrinkled hand. I assumed this was Mr Ollivander. I approached cautiously, however making some form of noise to wake him without a start. I plodded along the creaky floor until I was no further than a meter away. I coughed trying to awake this man from his slumber, but he didn't even flinch.

'Mr Ollivander' I quietly said, however there was no movement. I started to doubt that this old man was actually alive, I mean he looked about 90. I would be surprised if this man's heart was actually still functioning properly as his face was positively shallow and wrinkled.

'Mr Ollivander' I said once more this time louder. Unfortunately, his snores became louder and more consistent, confirming that his shrivelled heart was still beating. I sighed, feeling that nothing was going to wake this man. Out the corner of my eye I saw a bell. A big big bell, literally the size of my head. I reached over and grabbed it in my hands. It was freezing cold and smothered in dust. I moved back to my original position on the wooden floor and rang the bell. The metallic sound echoed through the rows and rows of wands in their dusty boxes. Mr Ollivander opened one eye and scanned the room, obviously wandering what had awoken him. He caught sight of me standing their with the bell in my hand. He removed his head from his hand and slowly and cautiously stood up and made his way gingerly to the till.

'Sorry' he said apologetically.

'No worries' I replied kindly as I placed the bell back on the table.

'So your looking for a wand? First year at Hogwarts?' He asked while scanning down the isles.

'Yes. What's Hogwarts like? I'm quite new to this witch and wizard stuff.'

'Hogwarts' he croaked. 'Is the best school of witchcraft and wizardry anywhere. It magical.' He continued saying as he traced his fingers up and down the wands, eventually picking one out. He made his way back to the table and placed the wand on it. He lifted the lid to reveal a stubby wand. I could feel the disappointment on my face.

'Is that my wand?' I asked sheepishly.

And Mr Ollivander said 'The wand chooses the wizard Miss...'

'Miss Dorm, Rachel Dorm.'

'Well then, the wand chooses the wizard Miss Dorm. That much has always been clear to those who studied wand law.'

He handed me the wand and I turned it over in my hand. It was quite light.

'Ash, 11'3 inches, unicorn hair, felxible. Well then don't just stare at it. Give it a wave.'

I did as he said, however nothing happened. We both stood their in silence waiting for something good to happen.

'Not that one then!' He said cautiously, returning to the isles and picking out another boxed wand. I returned the other wand to its box and waited for the next. He placed it gently on the table and removed the lid. This wand was beautiful. Engraved with tiny flowers which stretched and winded up the handle in vines. Picking up the wand I felt a surge of energy through my body, warming me to the core, making my body tingle with excitement. I knew this was the one. Mr Ollivander stepped back as if he was admiring his work.

'Incredible' he whispered under his breath. ' It never gets old, watching the wand choose.' And he added 'This wand..' he was studying the wand with his old eyes, taking in each inch. '13' inches, oak, dragon heartstring, ply able. A very good wand may I add.' I slipped my new wand in my pocket smiling from ear to ear.

I payed for it, thanked Mr Ollivander and left to find Hagrid.
