The Scientific Sleepover || SHORT STORY ||

"relaxation day"

    Arabelle, Laurel, and Ryellie are the best of friends. After getting together for a sleepover, they decided to have a "relaxation day" after a gruesome week of midterms. They first decided to make little snacks because they were hungry barbarians that could probably eat a whale but, they decided to go with a simple sandwich and a caesar salad. Arabelle and Laurel were making the sandwiches while Ryellie was assigned to make the salad. But before she made the salad, she first heated water in the pan till it came to a boil and added 3 organic eggs. While the eggs were boiling, the girls were just conversing and joking around while making the stuff they were assigned to make. After they all finished, Ryellie took out the eggs and as she tried peeling them, she accidentally burned herself. "Ouch, it freakin burns! Get me an ice cube please! Quickly!" she yelled. As Laurel gave her the ice cube, Ryellie quickly grabbed it and held it against her hand. "Much better. Thank you."

    After eating, they decided to go to the big jacuzzi-like-bathtub, so they all changed into their bathing suits and poured some bath salts into the water. As they stirred the salts into the water they admired the physical change of the water from translucent to a pale pink color. Arabelle strikes a match and lit a few scented candles while Laurel and Ryellie put their sliced cucumber pieces over their eyes while their faces wore the DIY facial mask they made earlier. After they started looking like little prunes they decided to get out and just do fun things. Since Laurel was such a science freak, they decided to do a few science activities and just watch movies and eat junk food after.

    First, they decided to the classic vinegar and baking soda in a bottle but since they didnt have a bottle, they just decided to use a ziploc bag. They quickly went outside and caught Ryellie before she fell. "What the fudge? Where did that nail come from?" She mumbled as she kicked it further from her and into the suns evil rays. After that party, they poured the vinegar into the bag along with baking soda and ran like crazy chickens without their heads, trying to avoid the blast of the concoction. After the small explosion they quickly cleaned up while Laurel kept mumbling "chemical change".

    She then decided that it would be fun to explain to her friends, who really have no interest in this, on what happened. "The chemical properties of the-" she started but Arabelle and Ryellie quickly zoned out too bored to listen to her explanation. "-and obviously the physical properties of the baking soda and vinegar look nothing like their past forms, obviously because they've been mixed but-" Laurel rambled but quickly got interrupted by Ryellie telling her to shut up in a not-so-nice-way. "Rude." she mumbled quietly but obviously, Ryellie heard it because Laurel got thwacked on her head by an amused Ryellie. As Sunday came around they all parted ways leaving Ryellie with an empty house, loneliness, and sadly, an empty stomach.
