⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀< Branch's POV >

Branch was awoken by the soft chirp of a bird just outside his house. He groaned in annoyance and shoved his bright blue face into the leafy pillow of his bed. Fatigue was weighing strongly at his muscles and he just couldn't muster the strength to haul himself from the sheets. He laid there, his breathing gentle and his hands tucked under the pillow. What was the point of getting up anyway? It's not like there was anything important to do.

The Trolls had made peace with the Bergens and there was no longer a need to fear them. In fact, they'd moved back into the Troll Tree that sat in the middle of the now-happy Bergentown.

"Branch!"

The sound of a feminine voice outside his door made him shoot up immediately. His pointy ears swiveled towards the noise and his eyes widened. "Branch? Are you there?" the voice called again.

Branch's breath hitched in his throat as he recognized the sound of Poppy, the Queen of Troll Tree. Her hand rapidly pounded on the wooden door and Branch realized he'd just been letting her hang there. He quickly scrambled out of bed and rushed towards the door. It wasn't until he stopped to meet Poppy that he noticed he was just in a pair of pants, no other stitch of clothing on his body. Gritting his teeth in slight embarrassment, the blue Troll realized he'd have to put up with it for now.

He hesitantly opener the door, his gaze colliding with Poppy's. He was taken away by the sweet, beautiful shade of pink that made up her irises, the soft appearance of her rosy skin.

"Hello? Anyone in there?" The smaller, younger Troll propped herself up on her toes to take her fist and gently knock on Branch's forehead.

Branch chuckled and playfully swatted her away with his hand. "Yes, I'm here, Poppy," he replied.

Poppy smiled sweetly. "You sure?" she asked in her beautiful sing-song octave.

Branch nodded, shuffling his bare feet against the cold wooden floor of his house. Poppy did not seem at all surprised by him being shirtless, but then again, Creek was pretty much always shirtless yet she never complained about it.

Every Troll in the new Troll Village had a house for their families or for themselves if they were alone like him. Branch had built his close to Poppy's. There was no denying his unbearably strong crush on the Queen, and he was still frustrated that they continued to consider themselves friends. Poppy's still probably mooning over Creek, he thought with a flash of anger. The stupid purple Troll no longer lived with them, but he had been Poppy's crush. He had been discovered a traitor when giving away the Trolls' home just so he didn't have to die. That selfish jerk! If he lays one hand on Poppy, I'll shred him!

"Branch, you're dazing again!" Poppy shouted, making him perk up his head and ears, his bright blue eyes widened and attentive.

He sighed, feeling flustered and turning his face away so the pretty pink Troll wouldn't catch his embarrassment. "Sorry," he apologized in a low mumble.

The sweet aroma of Poppy filled his nostrils much more as he heard her shifting closer to him. When her gentle pink hand rested on his shoulder, he felt a wave of electroshock course through his body. He quickly turned to her, his expression mystified when he found sympathy in her gaze.

"Branch, you can tell me if something's bothering you," she replied. "We're friends, remember? Friends are supposed to help each other out." Her hand slid from his shoulder, and Branch felt himself becoming wistful as he glanced down at it sliding back into place at her side. But he quickly moved his gaze away.

"Come on, Branch," she encouraged. "Get some clothes on and we'll start the day."

Without waiting for an answer, the pretty female turned and walked off, her steps light and elegant and putting Branch in a slight trance. The blue Troll turned away, closing his eyes. He opened them again and disappeared back inside his house to find his leafy vest and patched brown shorts. Once he had dressed himself, he glanced in the mirror and suddenly realized for the first time how messy his dark blue hair was. He gritted his teeth in frustration. Poppy must've been silently making fun of him! Oh, he looked like a mess.

Like I just fell out of a tree. He grabbed a comb on his shelf and quickly swept it through his soft hair and smoothed it back into place. He looked quite presentable for the Troll Village, and was happy he no longer looked like a starving, beaten-down idiot.

The male raced towards his door and stepped outside for the first time today. The sweetness of the spring air filled his nose, but it was nowhere close to the beautiful stench radiating from Poppy's body. He could almost smell it, but it was a fainter, less-tantalizing smell. His brain could never produce something that amazing.

Shaking off his thoughts, the blue Troll walked across the grass, glancing around at his fellow villagers. Poppy was sitting underneath a large mushroom with her friends.

Branch made his way in their direction, stopping next to them and catching Poppy's gaze. The Queen sprung to her feet and raced over to greet Branch with a quick hug. "You're out!" she said, her eyes gleaming.

Branch smiled. "Yep."

Poppy's little group of friends turned to Branch and each gave him a welcoming smile. Branch seated himself in the grass closest to Poppy, letting the pretty Troll have her own space.

"So, what songs should we sing today?" she asked excitedly.

Branch was no longer listening. He did enjoy singing, but his thoughts were elsewhere today. He couldn't stop thinking about Poppy. But she was right here, wanting him there...as a friend. He suppressed a sigh of longing. How much longer was this crush going to torture him until he finally opened up to her? Why was confessing feelings to another Troll so difficult?

"POPPY!" the shout of a Troll across the camp made everyone turn in panic.

Branch recognized a nice yellow Troll with orange hair whose name was Auburn. He was looking frantic as he raced over to the Queen, panting hard as he stopped close to her.

"It's your father!" Auburn gasped. "He...he won't wake up!"
