Animus

I wake up suspended in the air, neither falling nor rising just floating, unable to move. The world around me a beautiful, lush forests, blue rivers, birds flying; it all looked like a painting made by an artist from the Italian Renaissance. I'm just taking in the view, letting it absorb me, forgetting my original question; what's going on here? Suddenly I'm interrupted by loud sounds, footsteps, someone wearing heels. The footsteps stopped abruptly and for a second there was silence. My heart was pounding but then I heard a woman's voice. "So you're the only one who can save us? " 

She didn't sound sarcastic, her voice was full of grief as if she had lost someone or something close to her. "I hope they were right about you little one. Just between me and you-". She stops and whimpers, she's crying now. "Just between me and you, you're the only hope I have left of getting my family back. My name is Lourane Winters, please promise me that you'll remember that and bring my family back when you save the world". She's bawling. I couldn't move my mouth, it felt numb but then the feeling returned to my face, enough for me to speak. It hurt when I opened my mouth and a tear went down my cheek. Her name echoed in my head hundreds of times. Finally I said "I promise you Lourane, I'll bring your family back to you. " I didnt know if she could hear me but she said "Thank you" then my little world went black.

I woke up in a leather seat. I lurched forward trying to catch my breath, my heart was beating so fast that it felt like it was about to pop out of my chest. A woman rushed over to me and put her hand gently on my back. "Hey it's ok, you were just in a simulation" I let myself relax and my heart slowed down. The woman who was in the room with me was different, she wasn't Lourane, she didn't wear heels, she didn't have her soft mournful voice, she had a soft voice but hers was focused, like she was busy on a project. "Who was she? " I asked. The woman looked up at me confused. "Lourane, who was she?" "There was no one in this room named Lourane Josceline, that might've just been an effect of the simulation." I lean back in the chair exhausted; who was Lourane? Was she a real woman or another effect of the simulation? And what did she mean by me being the one destined to "save us". "She called me 'little one'". I said aloud. The lady looked at me. "Excuse me? " "This Lourane character, she called me 'little one'. The only person who ever called me that was..." The tears began to flood into my eyes and fall down my cheeks. "The only one who called me that was my sister." 

 I started sobbing when the memory hit me. I don't know what happened to my sister, the last thing I remember is running with her from someone and then everything went black. I woke up to my sister shouting at me but I couldn't move, I couldn't feel my body. The very last memory I had of her was her saying "I'll be back for you, I promise little one, they'll take you away but I need you to be strong, I love you. " After that the memory goes black again and then everyone here keeps telling me that sister died in a car accident and that the memory I had was just a dream. I hate that answer, I go back to my room and cry myself to sleep every single time I think about it.

I'm not exactly in a house, it's more of a science facility or something like that. They're trying to study me or "help me" with these problems I have. I have a heightened brain function meaning I can use more of my brain than the average human. However I can do weird things to the world around me and it gets stronger when I'm in an emotional state. Sometimes they have to put me into a simulation to keep me calm so I don't "mentally throw" everyone and everything in the room. I don't know how this happened to me, but I feel like I need to find out. The scientists tell me that I can't go home because I have no home to go to but I feel like they're lying.

I need to find the truth, at least so I know what's going on with me. When I went back to my room I decided to wait until the guards walked away for their patrols then I would sneak out of my room. The hallway was dark making it easier to sneak around as long as I was quiet. There was a room next to mine that had a light coming out of it. I peeked into the room because the door was wide open and I saw a projector. The screen showed something like a brain, an xray maybe. I wanted to get a closer look but the room wasn't empty. The lady who was sitting next to me watching me while I was in the simulation was in the room with another person, a man who I've never seen before, he wore a black suit with a black tie and a badge on his chest. His voice was deep and his words were said with a command for attention.

 "So what are we looking at Lucy?", the man said. "Well, she's getting more and more powerful, the simulations are revealing more about her past. A woman named Lourane talked to her and I told her that it was just a part of the sim but if she's talking to 'her' she might be getting her memories back." I ran back to my room, closed the door, put my head in my pillow, and started crying. Who the hell am I?... What the hell am I?
