"Nana?"
When Lucy looked up from her book, she didn't expect to see her six-year-old granddaughter standing at the foot of the stairs.
Looking up at the clock, then Malena, she sighed before walking over to her.
"You're suppose to be in bed young lady. It's way past your bedtime." She said as she kneeled down to her granddaughters height.
"I know...but I couldn't sleep. I want a story." Malena whispered, her tiny hands clutching her printed nightgown, and her hazel eyes slowly raising to meet her grandmothers.
Lucy smiled, she knew she wouldn't be able to resist those puppy dog eyes.
She laughed quietly to herself, grabbing Malena's hand, and leading her back to her room.
Tucking her in, she whispered, "You know your mother would do that when she didn't get what she wanted. Grandpa would always fall for it, but I knew better." Lucy smiled, reaching to put a piece of red hair behind her granddaughter's ear, "However, it seems when it comes to you and your cousins, I simply can't resist."
Malena giggled, burying herself further under the covers.
"Are you tired my little butterfly? Or would like to hear a story first?" Lucy said, making herself comfortable on the edge of Malena's bed.
"Yes please! I was just making myself comfortable." The six-year-old stated.
"Well, what do you want the story to be about?"
"You!"
"Me? Hmm, okay. I can do that." Lucy thought for a moment before continuing.
"Okay, so once upon a time-"
"No." Malena interrupted.
"No?" Lucy raised an eyebrow. She alway did pride herself on stories, but maybe Malena was getting too old for the princess ones ?
"I want a story about you! A real one."
Lucy laughed, of course her granddaughter would want a real story over a fanasty.
"Well, how about I tell you a story about meeting my best friend in the entire world."
At Malena's satisfied look, Lucy began,
"It was in the fourth grade..."
