Hello, my name is Lemony Snicket. If you're reading this book, I say shut it right now. It's no good in luck and very dreadful. It contains very scary and mysterious events.

It all starts out with the Baudelaire children on a trolley riding to the beach. Violet was the oldest child. She was about fourteen and a half. Klaus was the middle child. He was about twelve. And the youngest of all of them, Sunny, now she was about one and a half. Sunny was very extraordinary. She could understand advanced words. They were testing out their invention on the water. Their parents had told them to be careful. They wondered why their mother and father would ever let them go all by themselves to the beach. It was a cloudy day too, so they wondered why on a cloudy day.

There was a man in the distance coughing. It was cloudy, and a foggy day, after all. The children stood up and strained their eyes to see who it was. "Look! It's Mr. Poe! The man from the bank!" Klaus exclaimed, his eyes widening in curiosity. Violet squints to see in the distance, as Mr. Poe walks up to them.

Now, this is the devastating part where you probably don't want to hear.

"Good afternoon children." Mr. Poe said sadly, his eyes drooping in grief...

"How do you do?" the two children said synchronized. Even Sunny said something that would probably fit in with what her older siblings had said.

After a coughing fit, he said, "I have very bad news for you three of you." The children looked in curiosity, what could possibly be wrong?

"Your parents have perished in a terrible fire." he said, a tear slowly running down his cheek. The children stared at him in mingled shock and grief.

Now, I am warning you. If you intend to keep reading this book then good luck. And just warning you... I'm telling you, I am right on this one but go as you want to. But remember, this was your choice, not mine.

Mr. Poe took the children to the scene of their "house". Well, I wouldn't say their house anymore. The children looked around the house.

" The money that this in your family account will safely stay locked until Violet is a full adult."

Klaus picked up a dirty gold round thing. It was the only thing left over in the house that didn't get burnt. He wondered what it was.

" You will stay with my family for tonight! I'm sure you will absolutely love my kids and my wife!"

Now you know It hasn't gotten any better so I suprise you don't want to read this anymore. You may guess what happens next but I am not going to tell you.
