The flowers surrounded the coffin, their colors bright against the dark, dull case. A grey cloud descended on everyone. I gazed through the fog, trying to make sense of what was going on. Though, part of me didn't want to. All of me just wanted to go home and pretend that this wasn't happening. I felt like a naive child with thoughts like "he's not dead", "it's just a trick" and "he can't be dead" running through my mind. Of course he's dead. I saw it myself. I stared blankly at the corpse in the coffin, everything around me becoming a blur. Sinking into a chair nearby, I let the tears stream down my face, flashbacks from that night playing in my head like a song stuck on repeat.
Two blinding headlights,
screams...
silence
I quickly opened my eyes after realizing that I had closed them and tried to get the image out of my head.
"Vilu...get up. We need to go inside now" Someone said softly, shaking my arm.
I stared up and saw Angie looking at me, mascara smudged across her face.
I obeyed and followed her, trying not to look back.
