"I hate you!" Johnny Cade yells, as he barges out the door of his wretched house. He runs to the local park, not too far from his house, and sits on one of the swings. He rocks back and forth lightly, contemplating why his parents hate him so much. They were the ones who brought him here. If they didn't want him, they could've just put him up for adoption. That's what Johnny would prefer, anyways.

Johnny gets off of the swing, and paces back and forth. Where would he go? He can't stay in this park all night, he'd freeze! He can't go back home without getting a beating or two, and he definitely isn't staying awake until morning. It's 12:00am, for God's sake!

A thought then popped into his mind, and it was a good one.

Ponyboy Curtis always says that if there is any trouble, go to his house. So that's where Johnny was heading now.

The walk isn't a very long one. Ponyboy lives pretty close to him, only about 5 minutes on feet.

Sooner or later, he reaches the front door, and knocks loudly. He hears groaning, and he knows he has woken someone up.

The door flings open, only to reveal Darry, Pony's older brother, towering over him. "H-Hi."  Johnny stutters. "Johnny?" Darry asks.

He just nods. "Come in, buddy." He says softly and sincerely. Johnny walks inside, and Darry leads him towards the brown couch, sectioned in the middle of the living room. Johnny huddles into a ball in the corner of the couch, and whispers "Ponyboy. I need Ponyboy."

Darry nods, and tells him he'll be back with Pony soon. As Johnny waits for Pony, he looks around the small space. He looks on the other couch, and notices some old newspapers sprawled along it. He supposes Darry was reading, or something.

"Johnny? Oh, Johnnycake!"  Pony's voice comes from behind Johnny.

Johnny looks at where the source of his voice had came from, and Pony comes to sit next to him.

Pony gives him a sad look, and Johnny tugs at Ponys sleeve. He moves closer. "Johnny, tell me, what happened?" He asks, and takes Johnnys small hand in his.

"They... They're fighting again. My old man was hitting Mama, and I told him to stop. My old man slapped me hard, but, I-I didn't even do anything wrong, Pony! I didn't deserve it, did I?" Johnny asks, as unshed tears begin forming in his brown eyes.

"Of course you didn't, baby. You don't deserve that." Pony said, not realizing the affect that had on Johnny.

Johnny has feelings for Pony, he always had. He just didn't know it until now. The way that Pony looked at him, made him want to melt away. And now, he called him 'babe'? What does that mean? Johnny's stomach is doing flips and turns.

Johnny smiles lightly, and rests his head on Pony's chest, to lay down and relax. "Pony?" He asks.

"Yeah?" Pony replies, looking down at Johnny, who is rubbing his eyes tiredly.

"I like you a lot. More than I really should. But I do, and I don't think you do too, but that's okay. I mean, I don't think anything could come of this, I mean, I know nothing will, but I just wanted-"

Pony laughs, the corners of his lips going up in a tiny smile, as he listens to the boy ramble in front of him. He just leans down, and simply kisses him to shut him up.

Johnny, on the other hand, was not expecting this at all. He had the most gorgeous mans lips on his, and he had no idea what to do about it. So, he found himself kissing back. It seemed (to them, anyways) that they were the only people on Earth.

Of course, the lack of air overcomes them, and they break away. They sit there for a while, breathing heavily, regaining breath, before Johnny speaks up. "Pony?"

"Hmm?" He replies.

"Do you feel the same way?"

Pony nods, and reaches into his pocket, pulling out a cigarette. He lights it, and sucks in the smoke, before blowing it out, in the opposite direction of Johnny.

Johnnys mouth forms an 'O' shape, and he looks away, blushing like mad.

"I have for a while now, 'matter of fact." Pony says sheepishly, taking another drag.

"Same," replies Johnny in a quiet voice. "I just never realized it until now. I had all these feeling built up, but I always thought it would never work, so I pushed them aside. Now they're back."

"I'm glad they're back." Pony says, and kisses Johnny deeply, pulling away after a few short seconds. They both smile, and Johnny puts his head on Ponys lap.

They lay there for a couple minutes, Johnny's eyes closed, listening to Pony puff on the weed he has lit. It keeps them both thinking. Exactly how long have they been having feelings for one another?

They were both thinking the exact same thing, just for the other person. Neither of them were brave enough to speak up and ask, though.

It was a tough question to break, honestly.

They could have acquired feelings without even knowing it. Just one glance, that's all it could take. Who knows.

"He okay?" Sodapop, Pony's second oldest brother, says, as he rounds the corner from the kitchen.

"Yeah," Pony says. "He's alright."

Johnny had fallen asleep already, his chest heaving lightly, and his hair in his face. Pony wipes it away.

"I hope things at home get better for him." Pony says, sighing.

"Me too, little buddy. It will. He deserves it." Soda says, and walks back to the fridge, probably to get another beer.

Pony nods, even though Soda can't see him anymore. He takes in the features of Johnny's face. Just how perfect he is in every possible way. From his hair, to his eyelashes, to his toes, and to the way he walks. Everything about him is absolutely perfect.

Pony smiles.

"Stay Gold, Johnnycake." Pony whispers, and bends down to peck a quick kiss on Johnny's cheek, before drifting off into a peaceful slumber with him.
