It was the first day of school I was dreading going like any other teen but knowing it was my last year of high school made it a whole lot better. I ran to the bathroom quickly straighten my hair than did my makeup nothing major it was just school after all. I than walked back into room tugging on a pair of ripped jean along with a plain army green t-shirt grabbing my phone and book bag I ran down to my kitchen, I quickly rushed over to my fridge grabbing some fruit putting it a bowel and walked back upstairs knocking on my mom's door before opening it. I walked over to her and began to shake her awake.
"Mom come on wake up you gotta eat before I leave." I shook her
"I'm not hungry Abigail go to school." She quickly tried pushing me off the bed.
"Mom stop at least one strawberry than I'll leave." She sighed and sat up lifted the bowel from the night stand and began looking at what fruits I had put in there. Finally she pulled out the smallest strawberry she could find popped it into her mouth.
"There now go and shut the light off when you leave." I sighed but got up to leave a promise is a promise and I never break them. "I love you too" I whispered while leaving the room not really expecting to get a reply. As I return to the kitchen I see the time showing it was 6:30.
"Great I'm going to be late and it's the first day." I mumbled to myself I quickly grabbed a water bottle and my car keys and raced out side, I quickly pulled out my phone seeing best friend Lexi had blown it up asking where I was and requesting I be there soon or she wouldn't be able to get her morning coffee. I laughed to myself and shot her a text explaining how I would be there soon and reassuring her that she would be able to still get her beloved coffee.
"Took you long enough now I won't be able to get my coffee man." Lexi sadly stated as she got in my car noticing the clock showing we had fifteen minutes to get to school.
"I think you can go one day without it." I said while laughing
"No I don't think I can." She mumbled while trying to find a song to play, as I started driving towards the school.
"So what did take you so long? You're almost never late." She was right I hated being late I've always have every time I show up late somewhere I feel like all eyes are me and I hated being the center of attention more than anything.
"I didn't check the time." Which wasn't a full lie, I didn't see the time but I was more worried about trying to feed my mom than actually getting to school. Lexi knew about my mom she knows everything but I didn't need her worrying about me I could take care of myself.
"We both know that not true, was it your mom again Abby? You know you can tell me." I know I thought. But you'll worry and say it's not my job to parent her it's her job to parent me I just didn't need to hear it today at least not right now.
"Can't say I missed the traffic." I replied back looking at the line of traffic leading past the school gates, if I had known it was going to be this bad I would have stopped and at least gotten breakfast.
"There you go changing the subject again, you can't avoid this topic forever Ab." She softly looking at me. I know she's right but what can I say? Thankfully the line started moving again.
"You lost him too." I froze my grip on the wheel tightened she said it so softly she didn't want me to hear it but I did.
"Don't." I took a deep breath "Please Lex just not today."
"Okay I'm sorry just know I'm here and you always have a room at my house." she said smiling extra big I laughed.
"I'll keep that in mind." I said while parking my car looking at the clock seeing I had nearly five minutes to get to first period thank goodness it was on this side of the school I sure didn't feel like running around trying to find my first class.
"Ugh ready to go?" Lex said while grabbing our bags out of the back seat and handing me mine.
"Yea, let's get this day over with." I replied while shutting my door and locking the car.
"What's your first period?" she asked while walking into the school.
"Allied Health with Mr. Levy." Annoyed, don't get me wrong he was a good teacher but he was too harsh on the students and well he didn't always understand the need of privacy I didn't need him looking over my shoulder every time I was writing down notes or taken a test.
"I have Environmental Science with Ms. Wendle." Lucky I thought Ms. Wendle was hands down the best teacher in our school sadly this semester I didn't get in her class.
"Lucky, but let's be honest you didn't take the class cause you like it, you only took it cause Christian is in that class." I said while laughing at her Lexi has had the biggest crush on Christian since freshman year I guess you can say they go on and off every now and then she had chosen to take the class last year when they were still on.
"What no I happen to love animals." She said stopping outside my first period since our classes were right across from each other.
"Um Lex it's not even about animals." I said laughing at her and she got all red from being embarrassed.
"Whatever, I'll see you after class." She said giving me the finger while walking off I shook my head laughing what would I do without this girl.
As I walked into my class I noticed my friends sitting by each other thank god I have more friends in this class I really didn't want to be alone.
"Hey Abigail come here!" shouted my friend Justin. Everyone one turned to look at me I quickly shuffled my way over to the desks and sat in the empty one next to my friend Andrea.
"You got here just in time, Justin was about to tell us what collage kid he hooked up with last night." She said while leaning forward to hear the story.
"Which one hasn't he hooked up with though?" I asked. Everyone started laughing.
"She got you there Justin." Our friend Liz said laughing.
"Yea yea yea, now stop talking and let me finish." He snapped back.
"Anyway So he was kissing me and he started reaching down and I was like oh okay on the first date I mean if you want to, so he started to pull my pants down and-" Justin was cut off by our teacher.
"Justin this is allied health not anatomy if you would like to talk about your events from last night I'm sure you can find that class down the hall." The teacher said eyeing Justin.
Justin sank back into his seat clearly embarrassed about what just had happened. "Yes sir." He mumbled back. As the teacher turned to write something on the board he turned back to me and Andrea.
"See Abby getting here late got me in trouble." He said while glaring at me.
"Yea I'm sure that's what got you in trouble. " I said laughing at him again.
"Justin do I need to move your seat already?" Mr. Levy said looking at Justin daring him to say anything else on the matter.
"No sir." Justin repeated again
"Glad we have an understanding." He said smiling back at Justin as he finished writing on the board.
"Bitches." Justin whispered to me and Andrea we just laughed and listened to Mr. Levy explaining that he wrote on the board was what percent each assignment in his class would be worth. I can already tell this was going to be a long year.
