As I stroll down the hall, I can’t help but notice his locker. Every single day Blake would be there, standing against it waiting to walk me to class. His face lighting up every time he saw me, and I would do the same. The way people stared at us laughing down the halls thinking we were a couple. Somehow, today felt like one of those days even though he hadn’t done so in a while thanks to his girlfriend.

Was that all gone?

We haven’t talked in about two weeks after our incident… and the fact that his girlfriend, Stacy, despises me since Blake and I are so close. . She spends every minute with him, but to me she spends every minute keeping him away from me.

My face saddens at the thought. The incident plays over in the head often consuming my thoughts and emotions. My heart stills aches at the remembrance of his words, but it’s not like I couldn’t see it coming. I denied him after his heart-filled confession. What was he supposed to do? Wait for someone, who he thinks doesn’t even want to be more than friends? Just as I shake my head of the memory, I see a familiar face.

It’s Blake.  He’s standing at his locker taking a text book out. My lungs fill holding my breath at the sight. I stare at the way his flexed muscles look perfect under his dark blue flannel with his sleeves rolled up quarter length. I look away and walk quicker trying to avoid an awkward conversation even though I know I rather be with him than not. When he sees me, our eyes lock and a smile takes over his face. A slim pinch of hope fills me, but I quickly lower my expectations knowing me and him won’t happen.

I just want my best friend back.

He comes up to me saying “Hey.”

“Hi, I haven’t seen you in a while.” I say smiling helplessly back.

“Yeaa, sorry about that… I’ve been really busy.”

“Yea. Busy with Stacy.” I blurt without thinking.

“Oh. Yea. I’m extremely sorry about that. How about we hang out tonight?” He says winking slightly. A wide grin involuntarily spreads across my face, knowing when he winks it means we’ll be going to town square tonight. “Sure.” I say not expecting my day to get any better than this when I notice Blake is following close behind me.

I turn around and ask “why are you following me??” “Umm, I’m walking you to class like I always do.” He says in a Duhh voice. My heart seems to fill with happiness and joy. I feel like the world has been lifted off my shoulders for a while. My whole body tingles as if we’re touching. Just his presents feels like a part of me has been filled instead of the emptiness without him. Maybe for once he was finally picking me over Stacy.
