Part Nine | The Man That Changed it All

Start from the beginning

It was only a week away from her wedding day and the girl was not yet 17. Her father and Hayes had barely said two words to her since they had made their deal and it was slowly tearing her apart. She had never felt so alone in her life. She saw her father and Hayes in the chapel, most likely discussing the money, but she didn't care.

"Father, may I speak with you please?" Her father and Hayes didn't even notice her.

"Father." Once again she was ignored.

"Father!" The two men stopped their conversation, their heads snapping over to where Eden stood. Her father narrowed his eyes on her as he eyed his own daughter with hate.

"Don't raise your voice at me, Eden Rose." He scolded. The girl nodded shyly, watching as they returned to their conversation.

"Father, may I please have a moment to speak with you?" She repeated her question, seeing the two men's annoyed look.

"Why do you insist on marrying such a nagging woman, Prince Hayes?" The two of them laughed cold heartedly at the girl.

"What could possibly be so important, Eden?"

"M-May I please speak to you in private? Father it's-"

"You are marrying Hayes in a week, child. Do be reasonable and say it now." Eden shook with fear. She knew her father would be furious with her and saying it in front of Hayes would make it all so much worse.

"F-Father." Eden paused to steady her breath. "I can't marry Hayes." She announced confidently. "I hardly know a thing about him. You and he both wish for me to be a silent wife for an important man, but Father, I refuse to remain silent."

"Shut you mouth, you stupid girl!" Her father yelled. "Prince Hayes may ring your neck after the treason you've just expressed!"

"Ring away, what do I care?! I knew he'd strike me one day." Her father moved towards her. He was not ready to loose what he was gaining. Hayes saw her father and put up his arm to stop him.

"I won't lay a hand on her." Hayes replied, a smirk that Eden could hardly stand forming on his lips. "As long as Eden apologizes and promises she will pledge her allegiance to me."

"No." She snapped, ignoring her fathers icy cold stare. "I won't do it Hayes."

"It was your choice you stupid girl. Guards!" The guards burst through the doors about the seize Eden, but she started to shake. Not just shake, but so much so it appeared she was having a seizure.

Eden felt her magic strengthening, ready to blow. She held her hand down, trying to keep her secret unexposed, but it was to late. Hayes, her father, and the guards had seen it.

They charged at her, scaring her to tears. Eden yelled for them to stay back, but her warning was ignored. Her magic struck the men, including her father and killed them all as Hayes yelled for help.

Eden dropped to her knees, seeing the damage she had caused. She cried harder as the seconds rolled by. The dead men soldiers weren't at fault and because of her they were dead.

"No." She cried. "No, it was an accident."

"You monster!" Hayes yelled, pulling her gaze away from her limp father. "You are a beast!"

"Hayes no-"

"GET OUT BEFORE I KILL YOU MYSELF!" Eden wiped her tears away, taking Hayes's warning and running as far away as she could.

"What have I done?"

***End Flashback***

Normally Pan would have gone straight after Eden, but he wanted to keep Hayes under control. So, he did something he never thought he would do. Something he never wanted to do.

He wanted Baelfire to comfort her instead...

"Bae. Go find Eden and keep her company. You two need to come straight back." Bae nodded, running into the forest to go find Eden. After several minutes of walking in the woods, he found her high up in a tree just sitting there.

"Can I join you?" He called, getting her attention. She nodded her head, sighing as Bae began to climb the tree.

"It nice up here." He mumbled, trying to take her mind off Hayes. Eden loved Bae, but she wished Pan would come to tell her that he sent Hayes away or that he wouldn't let him hurt her, though he didn't come.

"Eden, Pan sent me to comfort you, but I've been thinking." This caught her attention, causing her to look over to his direction.

"We both have reasons to want to leave this place. Hayes is here and my family isn't. Those are two good reasons to leave."

"Where would we go, Bae?"

"To the Darling's. They would take care of us. They would become our family." Eden sighed. A family, she thought. That's what she has always wanted. To be in a family that accepts her for who she is. Eden had never felt remotely accepted until she came to NeverLand.

"How would we do it?" She asked, not thinking clearly due to her overwhelming sense of fear because of Hayes.

"Your magic." Baelfire said, pointing to the cuff on her wrist. "I can take the cuff off. We can knock out the lost boys, take one of the boats, and sail away from here. Eden, we can be free."

"Bae. My magic is was got me here in the first place. Besides, you hate magic." Bae sighed.

"Yes, but it's the only thing that can get us off this island. Come on Eden, don't you want to get away from Hayes. You want in?" Bae asked, waiting patiently for an answer. Eden stared at the ground, pondering over her friends offer. After all Pan had done for her, how could she just leave? But she is truly still a prisoner. But she felt at home here. But Hayes had changed everything. Eden looked back up at Baelfire, a determined look taking over her face.

"I'm in."
