The Mahogany Stairs

Tumbling down the mahogany stairs
She fell for you so suddenly so helplessly
Ended up as a crumpled heap at the bottom
Covered in bruises and even a broken heart
You came to her and held out your hand
She took it without even blinking twice
Staring into your mesmerising soul
As you guided her back up the stairs
She turned towards you but you weren't there
Your hand had slowly slipped out of her embrace
Your voice beckoned to her but she couldn't see
She blindly took a step forward but her foot missed
Tumbling down the mahogany stairs yet again
And again
And again
Until she was nothing but a crumpled mess
Waiting for you to pick her up from the bottom
Hoping for something that may never come true
