Chapter 2

There I lay, curled up in a tiny ball, in horrible pain on the soft, white, leather sofa. It was so comfortable. It felt like it was made of silk. But that didn't distract me from the current pain. .

"It hurts!" I shrieked. I opened my eyes and panted, trying to fixate my gaze on one spot. A space where several books were on the bookcase just disappeared. I suddenly stopped struggling. What the hell?

I got up, still clutching my stomach with cold hands. I look through the gap and saw a gleaming sliver canister. The canister had a post-it note on it, "Drink me. It will help with the pain."

"What the hell is this? Freaking Alice in Wonderland?" I stared at the steel canister some more. It said it would help. "Well...if it will help with this pain." I said reaching for the canister. A slight current of pain stung my hand as I touched it. I ignored it, and picked up the canister. I sat down on the sofa, my eyes concentrated on the jar. The canister had a black band coiled at the top of it, so I twisted the top off the canister.

A sudden "POP" sound exploded in the room, before the lid of the container smacked against the wall beside the iron door.

I looked down into the canister. Oddly enough, I couldn't see inside. Even though the room was so brightly lit up, the inside of the container was as black as the night. I placed the container on an oak coffee table beside the sofa. I started to look around for something to put the strange liquid in. I wanted to inspect the substance before I drank it - IF I'll drink it.

At last, after five minutes, I found a wine glass which was carefully hidden in a gap behind the strange book case. "Finally..." I breathed in excitment. I crawled over to the coffee table and placed the glass on it.

I picked up the canister and poured a red liquid into it. "W...what is this?" I said in disbelief.

"Is....is this blood?" I sat and stared at the glass full of the very liquid that flows through my viens. "Is this some kind of joke?" I shouted. Suddenly I heard a key rattle in the iron door at the back of the room.

The door swung open and out came a woman. This woman had long, curly white

hair. She was quite tall and seemed to be in her early thirties. She was wearing a long red dress which had a black feather pattern on the bottom of it. She had a scarf that paired up nicely with her dress. Her eyes where a beautiful deep green and...well, this seemed so stupid, but...her eyes seemed to look into your very soul.

The woman glanced at me and said in a gentle voice, "It's no joke." She lowered herself so that her face met with mine. "It really is blood."

She straightened herself up, and started to walk around the room. "I hate to inform you so soon, but you are no longer human." She stroked a couple of books placed on the bookcase, before sticking her hand into the gap where I found the canister. I heard a squelching, an unpleasant squirming sound before the woman took her hand out, and produced a glass filled with murky red liquid. I looked at her in pure shock.

Averting my gaze from the gap in the bookcase, I stared up at this vile woman, and asked, "What do you mean I'm not human?" I said with a frightened tone in my voice. She gave out a small chukle and looked at me, her eyes had changed into a bright red colour. "You are now a creature of the night." she said as she held out her hand. "Come, let's get you out of here."

I hesitatantly grabbed her hand, and she helped me up. "My name Miss Violeta, but you can call me Violet for short." she said, her voice full of kindness and honesty, despite the previous...introduction. She slowly lead me through that dreaded door, and we appeared in some kind of hallway.

"I...I think my name is Mae." I replied, trying to be as polite as possible.

"Mae, huh...what a pretty name for such a pretty girl." She said, slightly narrowing her eyes. We started to climb a very tall, dark, wooden staircase.

"Miss Violeta... I mean... Violet?" I asked, hoping for some questions to be answered.

"Yes Mae?" she answered.

I try starting off simple, but the questions keep tumbling off of the tip of my tongue, soon turning so complicated and confusing I can't understand myself.

"Where am I? Did you bring me here? And what did you mean by creature of the night?" I inquired. My words were becoming much quicker, and slightly slurred. "Where did I wake up? Why can't I remember everything? Why can I only remember some things? Why...why can I...how..." I trailed off, eventually turning my eyes to my feet.

"Yes...I'm sure you do have a lot of questions and I will explain in a minute." she replied in a way that put me semi at ease. But I still couldn't trust her.

No, I didn't want to.

We reach the top of the staircase and Violet opened the door, giving me a small smile as she did so. On the other side of the door was a large sitting room, which was decorated in the same stlye as the room I had been in before any of this happened. A young girl of about thirteen or fourteen came up to me with a grin on her face.

I took two steps back, not wanting to converse. I just wanted answers. "Hi im Victoria!" she said, with a spring in her step, and a lively tone. Victoria was a rather short girl with pink hair in two ponytails, which were kept in place with two green ribbons. She was wearing a cute green dress the same shade of green as her ribbons. The dress had a little blue bow just where her lower back would be. She gave me the impression of a hopeful optimist, which I wasn't a big fan of.

"This is Mae." said Violet. I noticed she wasn't smiling anymore.

"Wow! That's a really nice name! " Victoria said, excited as she grabbed my hand. "Come on! I'll show you around!"

"o..okay..." I said as I followed her.

Victoria first took me to a room which had two large doors at the front of it. She grabed the handles of the doors and forced them open.

"This is the inside garden!" said Victoria, with a hint of wonder in her tone. I could tell she's been living here for a long time. Why is she still smiling at what shems sing a million times?

We walked in and...I was amazed. I saw flowers and insects from every part of the world. Flowers with delicate patterns, looming trees with broad leaves.

"Hey Yomi! come here! we have a guest." Victoria shouted. A girl in a safari outfit suddenly jumped out of the trees.

"AH!" I screamed. I jumped back, hitting the door we came in through. What was her problem!?

"Yomi, seriously! You're meant to greet her, not scare her to death!" Victoria said trying to hit Yomi. Yomi helped me up and then apologised.

"Sorry, it's been a while since anyone's been here." She scratched the back of her head and looked away.

"it's okay," I said to her.

Victoria lead me out of the room and we started to walk down the hall way.

"I'm so sorry about Yomi, she can be a bit crazy at times." she giggled.

"No, no, it's okay," I replied. I stared at potraits that we passed, the eyes of the paintings glaring at me with judgement.

"Hey Mae? How did you get in that forest?" Victoria asked.

"How do you know abut that?" I questioned her. Victoria looked down at her feet. I felt bad for a second, but stood my ground.

"It's just that, everyone else here didn't know anything before mysteriously walking up somewhere." I looked at her and thought to myself, "The same thing happened to me..." I thought, but I can still remember some things.

I cleared my throat and continued with my answer. "I don't know how I got into that forest, but I can remember some things from before, like... I think I had a car."

Really? You go with that?

Victoria looked up and with astonishment in her eyes, she cried, "You can still remember some things! That's amazing!"

"Wait...you can't remember anything?"
