"She has cancer." the doctor said.
"It's too late, she has no time." life was harder than before.
As her eyes closed her soft hand now lifeless leaves my hands hanging from the bed.
I got up screaming!
"Are you okay?" Baba asked.
"I'm fine." I said.
"Ok, now get up you're late for school." he said, and left .
I got ready for school and ran straight to the bus as always skipping breakfast. I entered the school and saw a girl walking towards me with a fake smile plastered on her face.
"Are you Farah?" she asked.
I nodded.
"You are selected for the school play." she said handing me a form.
"Fill it and submit it tomorrow." She said walking away.
I really didn't want to take part in the play but Baba has forced me.
"You will meet new people." I remember him saying; but I don't need to meet new people! They go away with time and since time waits for none, it doesn't wait for me to catch up. It doesn't wait for me to recover from what has happened.
Baba gladly signs the form.
The next day, as I entered the school I walk towards Mrs. Amira's office, I hesitated to knock the door. But I submitted the form for Baba.
After that, days were all the same. After school, I would stay back and practice for the play. I was Calpurnia, Caesars wife in the play 'Julius Caesar'. Everything was a blur, but I remembered that day like yesterday. "Does anybody have a buck?" he walked in through the doors.
"I do", I said as I passed him the piece of paper shyly.
"Thanks, Farah right?" he said as he took it from my hands
"Yes", I said and then ran off trying to avoid a conversation; because who knew?
Perhaps it would be time's successful attempt to make me its victim, again. The next day, as I sat on the stairs, that same figure approached me.
"Hey, Farah here is your buck", he said as he sat next to me.
"Thanks." I tried to run off again but there was no escape, my only choice was to continue.
"My name is Ahmad, by the way." he said as reached out for my hand to shake
"Farah", I said and shook his hand
"Anyway I have to go practice, see you around", he said and ran off.
After that our conversations became longer. With time passing by, we grew closer and closer. I didn't know that I had started to like him. I did not confess, because I couldn't take risks by putting our friendship in danger; so I waited. A week before the play while I was sitting and writing my diary,
"What are you writing?" Ahmad asked as he sat next to me.
"My diary" I said embarrassed.
Before he could say anything, I understood what his question was.
"You can read it when I die." When I said those words he shook his head disappointed
"You say like it's not a big deal."
"Well it's not." I say.
"What about people who care about you?" He asked.
"With time they will get over it" I said convinced.
"You will stay in their memories" He tells me.
"Memories fade away Ahmad!" I said in rage.
"Besides, why do you care?" I said calmer than earlier.
"I care Farah .In fact you are one of the most important people in my life that even time cannot fade the memories I had with you!" he said as he left me to comprehend what he had said.
After that conversation, Ahmad started to act sweeter than before. He would carry my books; walk me to home, and more. The next day Baba saw me and Ahmad walking home together.
"Goodbye Ahmad!" I said smiling.
"Why was that boy here?" Baba asked in a tone which I had never heard before.
"That was Ahmad my friend", I replied.
"I forbid you to meet him under any circumstances whatsoever. I didn't think you would...." he said in the same tone
"Why?" I asked loudly.
"Because I know you have feelings for each other but I'm telling you for your greater good. So you better stay away from him; and if you don't, I will take action." he said and left me in fury, I could feel my blood pressure rising!
"He doesn't know what's good for me and I'm not scared of his pointless warning", I thought.
The next day while Ahmad dropped me home again, Baba was home early waiting for me at the door.
"What did I tell you Farah!" he exclaimed and walked towards Ahmad. He caught his collar, and threw him harshly.
"What are you doing?!?"I scream.
"I warned you Farah, you didn't listen." he picked him up and hit him again.
He continued his merciless act until he passed out .He dragged me into the house. I tried very hard to get out of his grip but his grips were too strong, and my struggle had no effect on him. He soon locked me in the room. Later that night I received a call
"Farah listen to me carefully, and please don't interrupt." it was Ahmad. His manly voice looped into my ears. Many question erupted in my mind. "How is he? Where is he?" I thought. But before I could say anything, he continued ..
"I'm leaving .Everybody is talking about what happened today and I can't live here anymore." Before I could say something, the line dropped and that was the last time I talked to him. I was left startled.
And Ahmad closed her diary. "When Farah's mom got cancer she only wanted time to slow down. And when she lost me, she only wanted time to pass in a blink of an eye .Time never favored her, and to escape time's unfortunate outcomes, she chose the only inevitable possibility; she chose death". He thought
