'-However, the great war to decide which race is the more dominant has yet to come, and all the Werewolves and Vampires await this day. The vampires do not know any weaknesses about the Werewolves, but the Werewolves know one large weakness about the Vampires. The sun and moon are their energy sources, after all.
Revive Skoll and Hati to catch the sun and moon.'
An echoed thud drifted around the room as the book was slammed shut.
Dust particles danced in the rays of the sun, relishing the warmth as they drifted around the shadowed figure. Despite the sunlight, the figure had managed to stay wrapped in shadows, and they strode across the room.
The room, filled with ancient cutlery and old mats, made from long, long ago, was high in the sky, on top of a large tower that seemed to hug the clouds. The seemingly thousand year old tower bent and swayed with the breeze, but still held its ground.
Stepping out of the room, the figure was met with the glare of the sunlight. Brown short hair shone against the light, and hazel eyes looked around for a way down. On the horizon, a lonesome howl echoed across the desert. Drawn to howl alongside the wolf, the figure proceeded to change form. The hair, previously on top of their head, shifted and moved until it covered the whole body, and blended colours with their skin. Soon enough, a mixture of whites, browns and greys hid the skin. Hands and feet had been replaced by large paws, sharp claws glinting in the sunlight. The process was long and painful, but after a few minutes, the wolf seemed to regain her strength. Throwing her head backwards, she howled loud and clearly, and waited for a reply. Soon enough, she got one.
Finding the stairs, she was cautious going down. Bits and pieces had broken off over time, making the decent even slower. By the time the female wolf had made it down far enough to jump off, it was midday.
The book, which had been tied around her neck by a thin black scarf, bounced as she leapt towards the deserts sandy floor. Bounding forward towards the mountains in the distance, she raced the clouds as they traveled across the sky.
Along the way, another wolf had joined her, a male, but arrived with nothing. He had a fur colour consisting of blonde, with few parts cream and grey. Upon seeing the females book hidden beneath the scarf, he nodded his head and ran ahead, scouting for any potential danger.
A few hours later, they slowed down, looking for a suitable place to rest for a while. Seeing a few stems of grass poking through the deserts sand, the female walked over to it and lied down, licking her paw pads. A few steps away, the male changed his form, the fur on his back disappearing and his bones and muscles reforming. Regaining his strength, the human got up and untied the scarf off the female.
Taking the book in his hands, his fingers traced around the words 'Fenrir And Servinior'. Turning back to his friend, he spoke.
"You really outdid yourself. The tower could have collapsed under your weight, you fat dog." Even though his words seemed harsh, his eyes held nothing but happiness. The female, who had also changed her form, also turned to face him.
"If you had walked up just one of those steps, that tower would have crashed down!" She chuckled at the end. Raising a hand, she wiped the sweat off of her forehead, and the male copied her actions. "It's too hot to keep looking for the other half of the book."
The males eyed widened. "What? Half of the book is missing?"
"That is what I said. I think someone knew that we were trying to find the book and took the other part before we even knew where the tower was. The question is who took it" the female said, pointing towards the tower, which was now far in the distance, blending in with the yellow landscape. "This half only has the information on one of the Wolves, not both. But we can only stop the war with both of them."
The male looked down in thought. "Do you think Servinior's people did this?"
"I wouldn't be surprised if they did. They must have found out about the upcoming war. They probably don't want us to stop it. Vampires, the bastards." Her face turned into one of disgust as she finished her sentence.
"But Alpha, we need to find the other book as soon as possible, or we'll all be dead!" The male was worried now, eyes wide in terror.
The Alpha's eyes were filled with sorrow now. "I know, Aiden. I'll go on another expedition in a few days. We'll find it, don't worry." She raised her hand and rested it on Adiens shoulder. Aidens messy blonde hair covered his brown eyes, unable to look at his Alpha. "Don't be sad. You can come if you want, as long as you get that mate of yours to look after the pack."
Aiden looked up. "You're right, Mira. I'll get my mate to do it, don't worry."
"Great!" said Alpha Mira. "Now let's get a move on, it's too hot to be standing around talking." And with that, the two humans changed their forms yet again on continued on their way home.
Not long after, the desert faded out into forest, and they were in the shade. Relishing in the coolness of the forest, they stopped to have a long drink in a nearby river, and resumed their journey towards the mountains, which were considerably much closer now.
By the time we get back to the pack, we'll have to go on another hunt. I won't be able to research more on where the other half of the book is, and I won't be able to gather the resources needed to resurrect the wolf Skoll. This whole thing will take much longer than expected. I'm not even sure that we'll get everything done in time to stop the war, Mira thought to herself as she walked tiredly up the mountain trail towards her pack.
What if we can't stop the war in time?
