Max, Adrienne, and Avia are three girls who haven't had very good lives. Max's dad never paid much attention to her, because he was always working at the computer company that he was the CEO of, Adrienne was abandoned by her parents when she was lit...
"Fine," Adri turned back around and stared out the window. She remembered the morning leading up to this. She had woken up with nothing out of the ordinary, but then Jackson and his crew knocked at the door. They flashed their shiny government badges and a couple hundred dollars and then asked if they could 'borrow her' for a couple of hours. With no further information, Adri's foster parents had agreed instantly. Wow. Adri felt totally loved.
Adri saw the car pull into a large parking lot with some huge buildings up ahead. She had seen this place before, on the school bus, never caring enough to actually see what it was. Now she wished she had.
"Ms. Adri," Jackson's voice scared her for a moment, "We have arrived. I ask you to please not get distracted, we must be on time. Now, do you have any questions I actually can answer without losing my job?" He opened the door of the limousine, and held the door open for her as well.
"Where are we?" she asked first.
"Crystal Computers," he answered. He led her down a small path and into a massive glass building.
"But you can't tell me why."
"That is correct," he answered vaguely.
"Why can't you tell me?" Adri asked.
"It's extremely confidential," he explained, "If anyone overheard, the entire operation would be put at risk, not to mention the poor soul who found out."
Suddenly, an idea struck her, "Does it have anything to do with Parallax?"
Jackson sighed and whispered to himself, "Now I see why they chose you."
"What do you mean by that?" Adri questioned.
"You are extremely bright. Not many children your age could figure it out with so little information," he explained. There was a door on our right, and Jackson ushered her in. The room seemed to be a conference room, and it was decorated in a nice, sleek way. The entire wall opposite Adri was completely glass, and that was when she noticed they were on a very high floor. They were at least twenty stories up. The walls were gray, and a glass table sat in the middle of the room, with twelve chairs around it. There were two other people in the room with Jackson and her, another girl her age, which is about fifteen by the way, with short brown hair, striking green eyes, and a shy, small face. Adri recognized her from school, but not recently. She thought she probably knew her in Kindergarten or first grade. Adri was surprised she even recognized her. The other was a man in a black suit, with black hair, and striking green eyes just like who Adri presumed to be his daughter. Adri sat down in one of the chairs, beside the brunette, who didn't protest. She was offered a coffee by the man in the suit, and Adri gladly accepted. She loved coffee, but her foster parents never bought it because they never had money, which was because her 'dad' spent it all on beer. Whenever he drank, Adri tried to get out of the house, and she usually took her foster sister with her, who was only seven. Her name was Sara, and she was the sweetest human being Adri had ever met, but it's not like she had much competition. The sad part was, she had never known life without the threat of Parallax hanging over her head. Sure, Adri had only been little, but those first few years were really nice. Those were also the only years she had spent with her real parents. When she was five, they abandoned her, leaving Adri to the mercy of the government. She still had a little bit of hope, though. Who knew, maybe they were doing something important.
Adri finished her coffee and stared out the open window, waiting.
