Hayden Djavick was the love of my life. Ever since sophomore year we were inseparable. We both weren't terribly popular. Just two average kids that blended in with the numerous groups in what we called high school.
During our lunch break, as usual, Hayden and I walked over behind the east building. No one ever goes there due to the suicide that happened last fall. Hayden's sisters best friend, Olivia, jumped headfirst from the third floor after dealing with depression. Our school deemed that the third floor was off limits to respect the loss.
"Tory?" Hayden whispered into my ear as he grabbed my hand.
"Yes babe?" I mutter.
"I love you so much"
A bright smile lit from his face, as I whisper back into his ear "I love you more". He picked me up off my feet, bridal style and carried me over to the soccer pitch and layed me down.
Class started with the bell ringing four times, as students lined up behind the door waiting for the teacher an announcement blasted through the speakers.
Tory Anderson, please report to the principals office. Tory Anderson to the principals office, now.
The rest of my class, watched me walk from the front of the line to the office, making an eerie sound. I'd never been called to the principals office before, so my hands quickly became sweaty and I convinced myself I was in trouble.
Knock knock
"Come in"
"M-Mr A-Adams, you wanted to see me?"
"That is correct, Ms Anderson. You're mother called earlier informing me that you're going to be away next week."
A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders, thank god I wasn't in any trouble.
"Yes sir, I'm taking the week off due to my sisters wedding in Hawaii"
My sister, Grace, was 5 years older than me, and now at the age of 23, she is settling down and marrying. She used to be quite adventurous and I'm happy for her in making this decision.
Mr Adams scanned the room. He was a very young principal so he got along with most students quite well.
"As you know, I'm going to be away for a few months. Ms Anderson, I'm not sure if you know but, do you know who your sister is marrying?"
"No sir, all I know is that he is a year older than my sister."
Mr Adams let out a sigh and fiddled with his pen. I'd never seen him this anxious before.
"Ms Anderson, your sister, I-is marrying a school principal"
Shocked at his statement, I crossed my arms and frowned. How could he say that. He has never met my sister. We both went to different schools.
"Excuse me sir, but how would you know such a thing?"
"Well, uh b-because, uh, your sister Grace, is my fiancé."
Shocked and a little frustrated, I stared at Mr Adams trying to process the fact that he will soon be my brother-inlaw.
Picking up my books, I left his office and quite purposely slammed the door to let him know I did not approve of this marriage.
Walking over to the east building, I began to cry. I hid behind the gate and sobbed into my knees.
How could my sister not tell me she was marrying my freaking principal!
I checked my phone for the time, in 2 minutes school would be over and crowded with people rushing to leave. Quickly running to my locker to grab my bag, I bumped into Eric, our high school geek, causing all his books to drop open.
"I-I'm so sorry Eric. I was rushing to get my back and I didn't see you, I'm s-"
"Hey, Tory, calm down it's ok. They're just my books. Nothing important"
Surprised by his reaction, I helped him with his books and continued running to my locker. 57 seconds to go and the school would be swarmed with students. I opened my locker, grabbed my bag, shoved my books inside and ran for the gate.
"TORY!!"
I heard Hayden scream my name, but I was too upset to turn around so I kept running.
One message from Hayden
Tory, we need to talk.
Is everything ok?
Actually no, can you meet me at the library?
Yeah, I'll be there in 10
Wiping the tears away, I brush my hair and change out of my uniform. I rushed downstairs, forgetting about what Mr Adams told me and grabbed my car keys. I left a note for my dad telling him where I went.
Gone to meet Hayden. Back for dinner
