The afternoon had grown into evening. It was very dark and looked as if it had been raining earlier, while me and mom were in the antique shop. My father had joined us soon after.
We were walking down an alley way, it was getting darker by the minute. I held on to my parents hands tightly as I felt something was wrong. I didn't voice this, fearing I may cause my parents worry for no reason.
As mom and dad were talking about work, I started to jump into puddles. Splashing water everywhere on the ground, getting my shoes wet. I started laughing and playing in them with my red sneakers, soon getting my socks wet too. Mom and dad just smiled and shook their heads at me. I stopped when my jeans were starting to get soaked. I was still giggling and my parents started laughing with me.
I saw a silhouette in the corner of my eye. Mom and dad both stopped, causing me to stop in my tracks as well. The man who stood in front of us, was dressed in all black, and it was too dark to see him clearly. Mom started to tug at my hand and walk backwards, my father motioned her not to.
"It's not a good idea Mia." I heard him whisper, motioning to the man who now held a gun. It's metal glimmered in the moonlight.
They both froze, not sayings word. You could barely hear them breathe.
"Son, I need you to put down that gun. We are good people, we've done nothing wrong. Just let us go and we will be on our way." My father said to the mysterious man.
The man said nothing, just cocked his head to the side. He stayed eerily quiet. My father turned around, as did my mother, and as did I. We walked away, thinking we were safe.
The gun fired, one bullet. It went through my dads back and out his chest where his heart should be. He fell to the ground with a very loud thudding sound. My mother screamed, I could hear her uncontrollable sobbing. She dropped to the ground, crawling over to my fathers dead body.
"Tristan! My god no! Tristan!" My mother screamed. She pushed his hair out of this face, kissing his cheek, and started to cradle his head on her chest, whispered "I love you, don't leave me please." Over and over again.
"Dad." I whispered quietly, staring at his dead body, there was blood pooling around him heavily. My mothers dress, now soaked in his blood.
My mother got up quickly, I soon knew why.
"Amelia!" My mother yelled as she stood in front of me, the next shot has came. The bullet went straight through my mothers head. She fell to the ground, dead weight. I looked at her dead body. Now soaked in her own blood like my fathers.
"Mom." I whispered quietly, wanting to do more than just stand and stare at my now deceased parents bodies.
As the man walked toward me, I started to run. As fast as I could, as far away as my legs could take me. I wasn't ready to die yet, I wasn't ready to face death yet. I ran faster with motivation and adrenaline. The police station wasn't that far, its where I went first. I looked behind me and sure enough the killer wasn't there.
I walked in, stumbling slightly. I tried to catch my breath, but it was difficult.
"Hey there kiddo, are you lost?" Said a lady cop, kneeling down in front of me, with a bright smile on her face.
"N-no ma'am." I said, still shocked over what just happened in front of my eyes. I looked at the lady, she realized now. Something was wrong.
"What's wrong dear?" She said in a very concerned and caring tone. Her smile faded but her voice was softer.
"M-my parents.. were s-shot and they are d-dead." I started to cry somewhat, the lady hugged me and told me reassuring things that I needed to hear. She kept hugging me as she told other people to gather up a team.
After that, they went to investigate the alleyway. I told them all that I saw. They wrote everything down and called some of my relatives, asking if anyone would take me.
My older brother Chase wanted me to live with him. He figured I needed a sibling rather than a strict household right now during this hard time within our family. He was right, I needed him more than ever.
He arrived soon after.
"Amelia, are you ready to go?" Chase asked in a tired and upset sounding voice that made my heart break.
This had to be hitting him pretty hard too.
I hadn't seen him in months. I ran up and hugged him, not realizing how much I missed him. He hugged me back and then grabbed my things, which wasn't much at all.
"Lets go home." He said, carrying me out of the police station, to his truck.
