Hello, this is my first story on Wattpad so I'm really nervous. This chapter might not be great but it will get better. Hopefully :)
This chapter is dedicated to ElenaJLS because she thought of the title which is amazing, she is the only one who has read this yet and because she saves me from hours of boring RE lessons so thanks Elena<3
Chapter 1.
I’ve always known that I’m different, since the day Katie Hurlock pulled my hair when I was 6 and 3 seconds later she slapped herself across the face. She left me alone after that and I realised there was something strange about me. I shut it away and never lost control again but I knew that I was different.
As I lay in bed that Sunday afternoon, my iPod blaring in my ears, I wondered who I was. I wasn’t the girl who would cure cancer and I wasn’t a girl who changed the world with inspirational speeches. I wasn’t the girl who wrote rock songs and had thousands screaming her name. I didn’t fit in anywhere and I didn’t know if I wanted to.
I turned my iPod off and jumped off the bed. Downstairs my mother was arguing with a man who I’d never met. I hoped to God she wasn’t having an affair, I didn’t think I could cope. I opened the fridge when I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water. I surveyed the man while I gulped down a huge mouthful of the cold liquid.
He was young, maybe 20, light brown hair; light brown eyes and a kind look on his face. I couldn’t help but notice how attractive he was when he smiled at me and his eyes crinkled. “Hi, Ana-Belle,” So he knew my name. I nodded at him, suspicious. I reminded myself he could be the man my mother’s splitting our family up for. My stupid active imagination was in overdrive. I’m not calling him dad, I thought.
“Do you know why I’m here?” His eyes were open and inviting. I shook my head. He looked disapprovingly at my mother and said, “Why haven’t you told her?” My mum looked like she was going to hit him. “This is my decision, butt out Jason. You don’t decide how I raise my child.” I had no idea what was going on and this comment made me raise my eyebrows, mum never got annoyed. “Not when she could change the world.” The man, presumably called Jason remarked. I thought this was far-fetched. “Tell her the truth, now!” He shouted and I flinched. This man, so kindly looking and mellow, shouldn’t raise his voice. My mother’s lips formed a tight line.
I turned to her, “Mum?” she shook her head. “Go to your room Ana-Belle, your father and I made this decision when you were young to protect you. Go to your room.” Anger boiled up inside me, “Tell me the truth!” I screamed and she opened her mouth, words tumbling from her, “You’re different.” I sat down, unconsciously aware of what she would say. “Your father and I are the same as you, we’re different. We have... powers; I suppose we should call them. We are both unnaturally strong. When we had you, we expected you to be the same but you ended up so much more powerful. You can make somebody do anything you want them to.” I had hoped this was just me being paranoid but I had known all along that I could convince people to do anything, like Katie Hurlock. Now I knew my mum couldn’t stop talking until she had told me the whole story, I was controlling her and I was appalled. “Your father and I fought for years against the masses who wanted us all executed, we don’t want the same for you. You have to understand.” I was angry.
“I have to understand? Try and understand this mum, I thought I was a freak. I struggled with this for years and any day you wanted, you could have sat me down and told me the truth. So now you’re going to leave this room and I’m going to talk to Jason because I doubt he came only to watch me loose all faith in you.” I said it calmly but with an undertone of ice. When I glanced at her I saw her heart break right in front of me.
“No, I’m not letting you do this.” She said and this time I took pleasure in forcing her to leave the room. I noticed she was crying as she walked out. Later on in my life when I looked back at this moment, it would fill me with unbelievable guilt but now I was feeling too betrayed to notice.
I put my head in my hands and listened while Jason sat next to me. “It’s not easy. You will never live a simple life, you will fight to be included and it may never happen. Try to put yourself in your mother’s shoes.” He said softly and I nodded as tears filled my eyes. I raised my head, “What do you want?”
“There are three main groups of humans on the planet. There’s the ignorant, which up until today included you. These are the biggest group. They’re the billions of people whose big problems are rent bills and their relationships. Ignorance is bliss. Then there is us, the unaccepted brilliance. Then there are the hunters. These are a group of people who devote their lives to hunting us down and killing us. Some say that because they are so good at what they do, they must have powers of their own and are jealous that they aren’t as powerful as us. But, when they’re running at you with a gun, you aren’t wondering why. We need you to help in our battle for freedom and equality.” He finished and sat back in silence while I processed the information. He was right about one thing, ignorance is bliss.
“One last thing: people like us are at our strongest when we’re with our other half. This is the person on earth whose power compliments yours exactly. Your father was your mother’s other half. We have tracked down your other half and you 2 and the other 6 people in your team with meet tomorrow and you will train with me from then on.” He added. “I will be your team leader.” He said proudly.
“Yeah, team leader or babysitter?” I joked and he grinned. I looked at him seriously and said, “I don’t really have a choice, do I?” He thought about it and said, “We won’t force you to do anything.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“I know.”
“I can’t just stand back and do nothing.”
“Nobody would blame you.”
“Yes, they would.”
“I’m just trying to be comforting.”
“You’re an idiot, I’m going to apply to be transferred to a new team leader.”
“You’re stuck with me.”
“Wait,” I started, “about my other half, do you always end up with them?” I asked nervously.
“No, it just means your power’s other half, not your personality partner. Some are related and some end up killing each other. But, please keep them alive, it would reflect badly on me.” Jason explained.
“Do they always have the same power?” I wondered out loud.
“No, sometimes the other person has a power to protect their partner’s weak spots. It’s very complicated.”
It sounded complicated and I was exhausted by the end of the conversation. “Okay, Ana-Belle, I’ll pick you up tomorrow at noon. Be ready, pack comfortable clothes and get a good night sleep. Bye Lorraine.” He said passing my mum as she walked in the kitchen. She said good bye and looked apprehensively at me. “Do you hate me Ana?” She asked, her eyes shining with tears.
“No mum, I love you, I’m just angry. Try to see it from my point of view.”
“I’m sorry Ana, I should have been honest, I shouldn’t have kept who you are a secret. You’re special and it’s a good thing.” She wrapped me up in her arms.
“Mummy, I’m so frightened.”

Hope it was ok(:
