The moon sat high in the night sky as the lights in a small neighborhood flickered for a second. To the families clustered around their TV's and dinner tables it was just a power surge. The twisted monsters that had emerged into their world slinking away unnoticed. The creatures turned to gaze at the bright lights of the city and the life force pulsing inside it. They hungrily licked their chops and started towards the defenseless, slumbering souls ahead. In the heart of that city an apartment full of college students were settling into their nightly routine. As the beasts crossed into the city six cellphones started ringing on the penthouse floor.
"Damn it." Two of the students yelled as they struggled to unwind themselves from each other and reach their phones. They tumbled out of the bed and threw on the first clothes they could find as the other tenants struggled to wake up. The two girls bolted out of the room and into the elevator. As it descended the taller of the two groaned.
"I hate the boss so much right now. I have class all day tomorrow, plus he interrupted us."
"Don't you worry; the night isn't over yet." The smaller girl teased, kissing her neck. The elevator dinged and the taller girl smirked as she took a step forwards and time slowed to a crawl.
"Time to go to work." She said as her clothes started to burn away. A pair of boots and jeans wrapped up her legs followed by black duster and belly shirt as the people in lobby faded into motionless phantoms. They were stuck in place as the world seemed to take on a black and white effect. "You ready Katie." She asked the smaller girl.
"Hell yeah, we haven't got to go hunting in a while." The pink-haired beauty replied eagerly before dissolving into a silver mist. The taller girl felt herself shift onto her toes as the mist formed a pair of curved blades on her leg, each ending in a razor sharp stiletto point. As it grew up towards the back of her knees it split into a v shape allowing her bend her legs without cutting into them. More silver metal covered her shins and knees before moving up and covering her hands and forearms. As she left the building she felt a chill run up her spine and sniffed the air.
"You aren't very good at hiding, I can smell you from a mile away." The tall girl said turning towards the demon in the shadows with a predatory smile.
"Awfully cocky someone about to die." The monstrous snake said before uncoiling out of the alley and stretching across the street.
"Reza, don't let it grab you. Those scales will shred you like they were sawblades." Katie said in her head as she kept walking towards the demon.
"I don't plan on it." She replied, a smirk tugging at her lips.
"What are you smiling at mortal?" It hissed unaware of the conversation occurring in her mind.
"Just trying to figure out if you would make a nice pair of gloves when this is over." She replied with a chuckle before the demon lunged at her roaring in outrage. Its jaws snapped the air where she had just been standing as she flipped through the air. As she fell passed it she threw out her hand and the claws of her gloves carved up the demon's side. The demon bellowed in pain before rolling and slamming his body around trying to crush her underneath him. He looped his body around her and started to tighten. Sparks flew of her gloves as she held off the razor edge of his body. She slammed her heel into his side and the blade sank till it reached the base. Its tail snapped around like a whip and slammed her into the brick siding of a nearby pizza shop.
"Move!" Katie screamed as the demon lunged straight at Reza with all its might. She twisted her body and grabbed the demon's fangs as it slammed her through the wall and into the store. She phased through several phantoms as it rammed her into the counter. Her arms strained as she pushed back against the weight bearing down on her. She let go of one fang and swung her fist into the other while spinning away from the demon. The fang snapped and she reversed it in her hand as the demon's head passed past her before plunging it into its sickly yellow eye. A shriek started to form in its throat but was cut off when Reza's hand pushed the fang through the back of its eye and into its brain. She ripped her arm free and stumbled back as it began to dissolve and the black ash was swept up into the air.
