Your breath coated the air in white while you trailed through the glistening streets. You gazed upward to your umbrella and watched the raindrops race each other to the tips only to fall gracefully around you. The roads were quiet, yet the occasional car that zoomed pass, usually full of people, remind you how alone you actually were.
Your boots pounded the cement.

*Sploch* you hated the world.
*Squish* you were lonely.
*SPLAT* your body tensed and jerked forward.

Unfortunately a deep puddle just became your best friend and BOY was that water gratefully clinging to your pants leg. The dizziness settled in from rolling your eyes to hard accompanied by grunts and grumbles towards your damp pants.

There was something comforting about walking around at 2am though. The neon lights dancing on the reflection from the rain and the light puffs of air that escaped your lips was... Comforting? Maybe it was because of the strange stories you can get when you stroll around during the forbidden hours.
The flashing blue and green neon lights hit your eyes and warmth succomemed you.

“Home at last,” you sighed.

In between a dingy noodle restaurant and a sullen cleaners sat a closed dance studio that you only knew the secret to getting into during the late night hours.
You gripped your umbrella and ran through the beating rain and tapped the glass door three hard times. Covering the window with your palms and looking through, you spotted a dopey security guard wobbling towards your location from the inside. His eyes squinted and he tilted his head to the side, all he saw was your dark silhouette peering through the door.
When he approached your he opened the door carefully. You smiled so big, to see your cousin doing well and as thick as ever. He swung the door open swiftly and held you close.

“It’s dangerous out here y/n!! You are all wet- what are you doing here so late?” He pressed like he was your mother.

“I just really did not want to be home,” You shrugged and rung your umbrella. ”I- I just needed to stretch my legs,” Clasping your hands together, you pleaded to use the dance room so you could release some tension.
Of course he could not resist your plea and reluctantly nodded while pointed towards the hallway.
You squealed with glee and skipped to the dance room, tossed your shoes to the side, and pounded the shuffle button on your cell phone. Your body proceeded to move on it's own.

Your feet pushed against the floor panels as you spun again and again. Your eyes were locked on your body as you absorbed the song into your soul. Your hands stretched above you and you twisted to the climax of the music. Sweat mixed with heat stuck to your skin but you didn’t care. The story you were telling with motion was too significant. It was bigger than you could ever imagine. You spun. It was bolder. You rolled your neck letting your hair fly into the atmosphere. It was beautiful.
“You are beautiful-”
Your breath hitched as you fell. Awkwardly you jumped up puffing with your eyes wide in fear and confusion…
’No one was suppose to be here’
In the reflection of the mirror stood a tall thin boy. He leaned cooly on the door panel with his feet crossed; a sly smirk painted thinly on his face.

“How long have you been watching?”
“Long enough,” He walked forward.
“No one was suppose to be here!-” You attempted to brush past him to collect your shoes and shuffled quickly to your phone but before you could snatch it.

The song changed to a waltz.

The mystery man gently pushed his hair back. God he was beautiful. He sucked in a breath and gently swayed his hips.
“Who are y-”
“What brings you in this morning?” He interrupted while spinning.
Your ears burned, “It's 2am at night..”
“Don’t you normally say that the am is in the morning?” He teased and outreached to you.
“Tell me your story,” He whispered.
“Not until I get a name.”
He quickly answered, “Hoseok” while motioning his hand towards him.

Your stomach sunk. You never danced with anyone before..
Hoseok’s eyes twinkled with curiosity and anticipation. He felt your passion pulsating in the air when he watched you dance and craved to be a part of the rolling emotions you expressed.  Therefore, he held you closer to him, assuming the lead in the dance. Every step he took was thorough and fluid when rhythm fluctuated.
Even his hand placement was calculated precisely to lead you into his arms. He dominated you  on the dance floor. Hoseok’s sway was so strong, you could barely keep up. Your knees were weakening because of the small gap between your bodies. His breathing was steady. With him you felt like one person.

The music died down. Hoseok was still holding you, smiling softly.
You found yourself with your head resting on his chest, slightly out of breath.
“Not bad for your first time,” He chuckled.
Your head bounced off, “How did you know that?!”
He kept laughing and pointed downward. “You kept stepping on my feet.”
You jolted backwards from his grasp. “I- I'm sorry!!” You grabbed your phone, umbrella and shoes while sprinting to the door and Hoseok followed after. Fortunately you were able to get one foot in your shoe and hop out while shoving on the other; violently bursting out the door.

Hoseok missed you by a hair. The disappointment settled in making him realize that he didn’t even get your name. He hoped that you were able to understand his story. Hoseok brushed his hair back in frustration; his heart would not settle even when he danced in the mirror. He couldn’t see himself. Only you. His heart would only tell your story over and over in his head no matter how hard he danced to his own beat. The rhythm of the waltz haunted his body with every move he made.

‘Steady’ he cooed to himself and sniffed your peach scent the air- it felt like home. Hoseok closed his eyes so he could see your face again. Stretching his arms above him, he mimicked your feminine choreography and melted it into his own style. The hair and sweat clinged to his neck and face- unbothered, Hoseok shifted his weight harder to shake your influence.
He spun over and over only to sink to the floor out of exhaustion. His phone vibrated in the corner, 3:30am.

Mist floated over the roads due to the rain kissing the surface. The clouds separated as you dashed through them. It's quite something when you roam the streets during the AM hours. You don’t know who or what you will meet. There is always an honest story to be told and you can really see what truth looks like behind their eyes. Exhaustion stilled your heart when you gained sight of the mellow yellow radiating from your doorstep lamp. You turned back to the street with a sense of longing for Hoseok.
You wanted more. There has to be more to this story. Moonlight lit upon your face while you stood there, it was similar to Hoseok’s warmth.

‘Maybe,’ you breathed as you soaked it in.

Just maybe, you two will meet again for another morning waltz.
