Promise

First Day

(The Next Morning)

"I promise." He said, then was gone.   "I promise." She said, then was gone.

I woke up abruptly from this dream. I'd had this dream many times after the accident. It was of my dad leaving and my mom dying. It always made me miss them so much. In the dream they promised to stay but they didn't.
I got up and shivers ran up my spine as my feet hit the cold wooden floor. I looked to see Cooper wasn't laying with me anymore so I went downstairs in my tee shirt and shorts with my hair up in a messy bun. I got downstairs and could see Jenna cooking something. She turns around with a big smile on her face. "Well good morning. I made some pancakes for the first day! Oh and don't forget founding week starts today. All the founding families are required to show up to every event, tonight is the full moon ceremony. Don't forget you'll need to wear something fancy." Jenna says. I groan and roll my eyes at her. She puts a plate of pancakes in front of me as I sit at the table. Cooper sits next me chowing down on his food and finishing his orange juice. He looks at me and giggles as he makes a silly face. "Oh crap I didn't realize how late it was! I have to go will you drop Cooper off at Pre-School for me?" Jenna says abruptly while looking at her watch. "Sure." I respond. She kisses Cooper on the forehead then kisses me on the cheek and walks out the door after waving goodbye. After I finish my breakfast I grab Cooper and I's plates and put them in the sink. I pick him up and he runs down the hall to wash his hands. He runs back out laughing, I pick him up and swing him around. He laughs uncontrollably as I do so. After I stop I start up the stairs and put him down at the top of the stairs. "Will you pick out an outfit for me? Jenna forget." He says as he points to his room. I bend down to his height and say, "Yes I will." He runs towards his room and opens his closet door. I pick out a pair of jeans and a white shirt with a cute little flannel. He smiled when I pulled it out and set it on his bed. "Okay you get dressed and then when you're done come get me ok?" I say. He nods and I walk out of his room slightly shutting his door. I walk down the hall into my room and walk over to my closet. I open the door and rummage through my clothes trying to find a perfect outfit for the first day. I pick out some high waisted skinny jeans and an oversized v neck auburn short sleeve shirt. Once I put that on Cooper came knocking at my door. "I'm ready." He said with his normally big smile on his face. "You still have to brush your teeth bud." I said. "Oh duh" he responds laughing. He walks down the hall into the bathroom and I here him turn on the faucet. I walk over to my vanity and put on a small chain necklace with a tiny diamond in the middle. I then walk down to the bathroom and brush out my hair. I pull out my straightener from one of my drawers and plug it in. Cooper finishes brushing his teeth and puts his toothbrush back in the holder. He walks out of the bathroom and goes to his room. I quickly straighten my hair and brush my teeth. I look in the mirror and sigh. As I got back to my room I decide to put on my mother's ring, When she got married to my dad they were both young so they couldn't afford an extravagant ring. So she had a thick silver band with small fake diamonds in graved in it. I put it on and went over to put out my shoes and socks on. I slip on my black socks and put my plain black converse on. After I was done I yelled for Cooper, "Cooper come here and bring your socks and shoes." He comes running into my room with his socks and tennis shoes in his hands. I plop him down on my desk chair and put his socks and shoes on. He hops off the chair and runs back to his room. I grab my phone off the charger to see multiple texts from some old friends in town. Abi, Lexi, and Jace. Abi has been my best friend since I can remember. She has dark brown hair and hazel greenish eyes. She was like a sister to me and always made me feel better. We'd hung out a lot I moved back and she was so excited for me to finally be coming back to school. Lexi's mom worked at the cafe that Jenna owns so I spent a lot of time with her. She had dark brown hair and brown eyes. Jace was the best guy friend ever. He was really sweet and always very protective over his friends. He was very built for our age, he has light brown hair and blue eyes. The only other friend I can remember is Brett. I also remember being friends with him for as long as I can remember. When we were younger we used to always have play dates. His family was also one of the founding families. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
I don't think it'll be hard for me to adjust because I know everyone already. I grab my book bag and shut my bedroom door behind me. I open Cooper's door and say, "Come on it's time to go." On our way out I look at the clock to see it was 7:55. My school started at 8:30 and Cooper's started at 8:15. I grab my keys and lock the door behind me. I owned a new black Camri, I got it for my sweet 16 from Jenna.
I put Cooper in his car seat and fastened him in. I got into the front seat and pulled out of the drive way. After a short drive I parked in the Elementary School parking lot. I got out and got Cooper out. I walked him into the school and he held my hand the whole way. We stop at the entrance of his class room. He looks up at me and smiles I bend down and hug him and he gives me a kiss on the cheek. "Bye sissy" he says as he lets go of my hand and walks into his class. The Pre-School is in the same school as the elementary. I walk down the hall to be stopped by an older woman. She looks at me and gives me a heart warmer smile, I then realize it was my fifth grade teacher Mrs. Nelson. "Hi Audrey it's good to see an old face." She says. I smile at her with real joy and say, "It's good to see you too Mrs. Nelson." She smiles and walks away as I carry on. I get back into my car and drive to the high school. After about a five minutes drive I finally arrive. I pull into a parking spot and get out of my car feeling nervous. I grab my bag from the passengers seat and shut my door. I walk into the school and immediately look for my locker knowing I have twenty minutes to spare. I had already received my schedule, Jenna had already registered me. School had been in session for about a month now and I wasn't behind at all. I've always had really good grades and I'm top of the class.
When I get to my locker I put in my combination and put my bag in. I pull out my books and supplies. I'm abruptly stopped by two arms wrapping around me. I turn around quickly to see Abi smiling uncontrollably. "Omg! You're finally here!" She squeals. I shut my locker with my books in my arms and respond saying, "It's good to be back."
