Rhiannon stood upon the roof top, her petite frame shrouded in the dark shadows of the winter’s night, she quietly studied the human’s below, waiting for someone to pass her that she could take, someone who wouldn’t be missed.

Focusing upon a lone male, her icy blue orbs tracking him as she waited for the perfect moment to strike, she smiled to herself at how blissfully unaware he was of the danger that followed his every step.

Letting her mind wander she thought of how un-known to most of the world, Rhiannon was a vampire, a vampire of the eldest kind. Her speed, strength and agility were rarely matched these days, which was probably the only thing keeping her ‘alive’. There were few left who remembered the old ways, and obeyed the laws of their species.

Snapping back to the present, she focused on the human again, her mouth almost watering from the scent of his blood as she jumped from the roof, his heart beat like music in her ears, pumping delicious streams of sweet crimson blood through his veins. He didn’t stand a chance and she knew it.

Hearing her name whispered in the wind Rhiannon froze in her stride, her head whipping from side to side as she tried to decipher were the voice came from. Swiftly pivoting on her heel she dropped into a deep bow, the man before her simply watching her as he begin to speak “Hello Rhiannon”.

Averting her eyes from his face, Rhiannon rose to a standing position, a barely audible “Hello Father” escaping her lips as she shook in fear. “I never expected to see you again after what occurred during our last meeting, Father.”

Flashing a devilish smile the male took Rhiannon’s hands in his, his deep mahogany eyes seeming almost black in the dim street light. “Why do you fear me so much child? I am here to present you with an offer I recommend that you don’t refuse”.

Wrenching her hands away from him, Rhiannon turned quickly and began to run as fast as she could without drawing attention to herself. Darting through alleyways silently she reached her home, fumbling with her keys she unlocked the door, throwing it open before slamming it shut behind her and forcing the dead bolt into place.

Sliding down the door she buried her face in her hands, fear rolling off her body in waves as she tried to make sense of her father’s return. Of course he wasn’t her biological father; he was her maker, her vampire father. Who was as old as the universe itself. Mathias. The first of her kind. A law upon himself.

After what seemed like an eternity, Rhiannon pulled herself together and got up from the floor, darting up the stairs to awake her brother, Thomas. She stood over Thomas’

bed, shaking him vigorously until he stirred and opened his eyes. “Rhia, what the hell? I was sleeping”. “Tom I know, but this is important, He’s back, Mathias is back.”

Staring at Rhiannon, his mint green eyes wide with shock as he jumped out of bed. “We need to leave, the sooner the better.” Shaking her head in response to Tom’s statement, Rhiannon pulled him into a hug, her protective-ness of her younger brother obvious from the embrace. “Tom you know he’ll find us were ever we go, he made us, and he can track us anywhere. I think we will have to fight this time.”

The fear and anguish of what was to come was clear across to two vampire’s faces as they stood silently, their arms locked around each other. “Rhia, we need to come up with a plan and fast, before he figures out where we live.”

Untangling herself from her brother’s arm Rhiannon began to pace the room, her mind in over-drive as she tried to figure out a way to outsmart Mathias. She knew it was going to be incredibly difficult, for every ounce of strength she had, Mathias had ten.

Looking at Tom curled back up on his bed, the picture of youth and innocence; she knew in that instant that they had to bring Mathias to a final death. To remove him from the earth so they could be safe and free to live without fear. But how?
