When I look in the mirror
The world has never been clearer
I see a little girl
Doing a little twirl
Her dress is blue
To match the tears that flew
Her mother was dead
Buried in red
Ever so still
Skin that caused a chill
And the little girl wondered
If life was always this cruel.
When I look in the mirror
The world has never been clearer
I see a young girl
Her hair in little curls
She'd buried her cat
Now she knew where death sat
She'd faced enough
But her heart was tough
She'd carry on
Her innocence gone
And the little girl thought
Who'd stole it from her.
When I look in the mirror
The world has never been clearer
I see no girl
But a woman engaged to an earl
She'd shed her roots
Her father and brother in suits
As they plundered into the floor
And rest forevermore
The war has killed them both
And so she'd took a solemn oath
She'd never forget what mankind had done
Ravaged her family with their bombs and their gun
And so the girl got ready for marriage
And the hope for a baby in a carriage
And so the woman pondered
What life had in store for her.
When I look in the mirror
The world has never been clearer
I see a family fading with time
As illness and disease take away what's mine
I bury my children into the dirt
But the world carries on unhurt
The tears that I weep are from my heart
I hope mankind doesnt tear it apart
And I think to myself
I must be strong.
When I look in the mirror
The world has never been clearer
The woman staring back
Is dressed in black
Her husband has gone
But life carries on
She lost him five years before
Writhing in pain on the floor
He'd been stabbed in the back
In a vicious criminal attack
She hoped his soul would rest in peace
And her hope would not decrease
Her childen had grown
And bore children of their own
With them she would play
And tell stories about back in the day
She was content
With how life went
And so she smiled
In peaceful melancholy.
When I look in the mirror
The world has never been clearer
I see an old woman 100 today
Her hair is gray
Her eyes are sad
They lost that twinkle they always had
Wrinkles cover her face
But she still has an air of grace
Afterall she married an earl
Once upon a time she used to twirl
In grand balls and wear pretty gowns
Back then she had a family and lived in town
But now she is all alone
She lives in a home
Staring at the mirror
Waiting for Death to come nearer
To take her to the place
Where she will embrace
All the lost ones
And there wait for her daughters and sons
Her life was done
It had been fun
As she gazed into the mirror.
