The Way We Were

'This wasn't exactly what we had in mind; but, it was pretty perfect. After defeating the Dean and saving the world, we didn't know just what we were going to do exactly. But, we wanted to stay together. I bet you can guess who would rather we mean just we.'

"Are you talking about me again?" A voice from behind made me nearly jump out of my chair. I turned to see Carmilla plop down on our huge Queen size bed.

"What? I was just explaining to them where we are now." I smiled at my girlfriend before turning back to the camera.

"Sure, cupcake." Carmilla kissed my hair before sauntering out of the room.

I finished explaining that we found a pretty nice house outside of town in a forest. It seemed to have been vacant for some time. So, Carmilla, Perry, Laf, Danny, and I have all been residing there for the past month. It was roomy and comfortable and peaceful, something all of us needed. I ended the video and went into the kitchen for some hot cocoa.

As I sat at the table with the cocoa and my phone, I started to think back to when I first met Carm. We used to annoy one another so much! It's surprising that we've been able to make it this far. We managed to see past one another's flaws and stay together. I would rather have Carm than nothing at all. Pretty sure she feels the same way since we really did almost lose each other nearly a month ago.

A voice interrupted my thoughts,"Better hurry before that gets cold, cutie."

Some of the contents of my mug spilled onto the table. Mumbling to myself, I quickly grabbed a napkin to clean it up.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Carm wrapped her arms around my waist and placed a kiss to my neck.

"Oh, just thinking about how much we've grown." I sighed deeply at the feel of her touch. That could never go away, the way she makes me feel.

"Now, don't you start with that whole 'realist' thing again." Carmilla removed herself from me to sit on the kitchen counter.

"No! I'm saying that we started off hating each other and now we can't get rid of the other. That's alot of growth." I leaned against the table to face her.

"Yeah, we're a walking cliché. Alert the media. We'll be a movie in no time." She chuckled as she jumped down. Still a cat in so many ways.

I grabbed her face and kissed her lips, pressing our foreheads together. This was one of my favorite moments with her.

"We are so much better now." I mumbled.

A loud crash interrupted this beautiful moment. Carmilla growled silently before I ran to see what the issue was. Apparently, Laf had accidently knocked over the urn that Perry brought with her from Silas. They kept blurting out all kinds of profanities that it could've put Carm to shame. Perry was more concerned with the mess- and keeping Laf from getting cut- than she was about the urn. But, Carm and I were more concerned with what was coming out of it. Some kind of green smoke was just lingering in the air. There was no scent to it. All at once, it vanished.

"LaFontaine stop touching that!" Perry hit their hands and pulled them away before going to grab the broom and dustpan.

"What the frilly hell was in that urn?" Carmilla edged towards it broken spot on the floor.

"LaFontaine decided to put an experiment into it last night. Who- but I- figured that it would wind up broken within a matter of hours?" Perry scooped up the remaining portions of the urn.

"I can fix it, Perr. Just give me the pieces. It's nothing a little glue can't handle." They grabbed the dustpan and ran up the stairs with Perry at their heels.

"This is going to be an issue, isn't it?" I looked to Carmilla.

She had this concerned look on her face. It's like she knew something was coming. Without her vampiric powers, I knew her fear was that she wouldn't be able to protect me.

"It wouldn't be us if it wasn't."

"No, it really wouldn't, would it?" Both of our heads whipped towards the all too familiar voice.

"There's no way." Danny appeared from behind us. She must've just come in from her run.

Here we go again.
