Coraline's POV

I was in the living room when my father came in, holding a gun. He pointed it at my mum and said, "I'm so sorry, dear, I love you but we all know it's time." He pulled the trigger and my mums blood comes rushing out of her ears, mouth and nose. It was a horrible scene.

I grabbed the phone and ran upstairs. I locked myself in the bathroom and heard another gun shot. Was he searching for me? I thought to myself before dialling 911.

When an operator picked up, it was a man. He sounded young. "Hello, what is your emergency?" He asked. "M-my dad k-killed m-m-my mom!! I think h-he's s-searching for-for me!!" He cried into the phone.

"Okay, ma'am, stay very quiet okay? I want you to be extremely quiet. Have you locked yourself in a room?" He asked.

"Y-yes. Yes I'm in the bathroom. Th-the door's locked." I stuttered in reply.

"Okay, ma'am, can I get you name and how old you are?" He asked calmly.

"I'm C-Coraline surname and I'm 13 years old." I replied honestly.

"Okay, Coraline. Do you have any brothers and sisters?" He asked.

"N-no." I replied.

"So, you are alone, am I right?" He asked.

"Y-yes. I don't hear a-any movement." I said.

"Okay, Coraline, please don't leave you bathroom anyway, just to be safe, okay?" He pleaded.

I agreed to stay there and then a knock on the bathroom door came. "It's okay, ma'am, it's the police, you can come out." A police officer shouted from outside. I unlocked the door and he stood there, looking at me quite sympathetically.

He took me back to the station and got me some water. He could see that I was in shock. "I'm officer Brady." He said while sitting down to interrogate me. I nodded.

"So, you were witnesses to the murder, aren't you?" He asked me as politely as asking that question can get.

I nodded.

"Well, it was to appear that he killed himself straight after." He said and I flashed back to the second gunshot.

"We are trying to find some family that you can live with." He said and looked over to another officer who was making phone calls and he shook his head. "None, so far." He said.
