Why am I even doing this? I don't even like pubs. Newt thought to himself as he approached the doors. The air was slightly chilly, causing Newt to wear his old scarf and try to wrap his coat around himself tighter. He could hear the muffled music from outside.
He looked up at the neon sign which read The golden cauldron followed by a date of making which was clearly a long time ago.
He walked in, immediately hit by the loud music. He had the urge to cover his ears, but walked up to the bar bravely, ignoring the pounding of the music in his head. There were many people drunk out of their minds, dancing like idiots.
Newt cringed and kept away from them, keeping in mind his promise to a friend. He still remembered the conversation.
"Newt, I never realized this, but you don't get out much," His friend Jacob once said.
"I know that,"
"Look, I go to all your fundraisers right? What if you go to a pub tomorrow? You got the weekend off," He said it nonchalantly.
"I don't go to pubs.." Newt mumbled in reply.
"How about just this once? For me?" Jacob asked, helping Newt look through some boxes. "Will you drop the subject if I go?" Newt sighed.
"Absolutely!" Jacob nodded.
Newt looked down in defeat. "Then I'll go,"
He honestly regretted it now, but he promised his friend.
"How ya doin' sweetie?" Was whispered in his ear by a very drunk woman. He took a deep breath. "I-I am doing great," Newt noticed a girl edging closer to then and directed the first one to her before taking refugee and sitting on a barstool.
Newt ordered a drink that wasn't too alcoholic and took a sip of it, looking around. He wasn't sure why some people enjoyed going to these places.
Beside him, a fierce looking woman who looked slightly less uncomfortable than he felt turned towards him. "You don't like pubs either?" Newt smiled. "Not really. I'm just doing a favour for a friend. How about you?" He watched as she took a sip of her drink. "Well I came with my sister, though I'm not really sure where she is at the moment." She took a swig of her drink. "I'm Tina. Tina Goldstein,"
"Newt Scamander," He replies, shaking her hand.
"Where have I seen you before?" She asks, ordering another drink.
He fiddled with his cup. "I'm a Zoologist, and I uh, well I hosted a few fundraisers for animals.." He looked down.
"That's really cool!" Tina exclaimed. Newt looked at her cup and saw it was already half empty. He didn't really understand how someone drank that much so quickly but didn't ask.
"So what do you do?" He asked, genuinely intrigued.
"I'm a policeman. Well, woman. I patrol the streets!" She smiled, making a tough face and looking around,"
The night flew by and Newt has barely started his second drink when Tina had finished quite a bit. "And then I said 'and don't you ever come here again!'" Tina laughed. Newt looked at his watch. It was getting late. "Hey Tina can I borrow your phone?"
Tina laughed and handed it to him. "Sure!"
"I'll be right back,"
He took a few steps away and looked through her contacts before calling Tina's sister. He hoped she would answer and maybe come and pick her up. Sadly she didn't and poor Newt was forced to leave a voicemail.
"Hello this is Newt Scamander and I was just Um, calling to say that I am here with Tina and if she c-could get a designated driver that would be great. However if no one can come, then I live j-just down the street from the golden cauldron in number 65B. So..yeah.." And then he hung up.
He walked inside to see a man staring at Tina in a very strange way. He quickly sat down beside her. "I think it's time to stop with the drinks, it's getting late" Newt hoped she would just agree. "Alright Mr Scamander! " She then laughed as he gestured for the bill and paid for them both before standing up and offering his arm to her.
After some arguing, mostly on the fact that Tina didn't want to go, they finally made it to Newts little flat. It wasn't took big, though it was very cozy, and had two bedrooms. "J-just take off your shoes and coat," Newt said. Tina smiled. "Is this your house? It's really really nice!" She laughed again handing him her coat. Newt hung it up and led her to his spare room.
"Now it's really late. So just er, go to sleep." He smiled. Tina grinned back before basically collapsing on the bed and passing out.
