Lynched

    In the Plymouth Colony, New England, Puritans had come from england trying to find a place where it regarded the Reformation of the Church of England under Elizabeth as incomplete and sought to simplify and regulate forms of worship.

We officially start this story in the land that we call America. Its 1711 September 19th when a baby girl was born, around 04:09 am. Her name was Judith Hawke, and she lived in the Plymouth Colony with her Mother, Father, and her two older brothers. She had long, straight brown hair, blue-green eyes, and later in the story was quite tall for her age, about 5'8". Her Mother was named Bethany Hawke, Her Father was Elijah Hawke, oldest brother was Aaron Hawke, and then Benjamin Hawke.

While growing up Jude(Judith) had lived a pretty normal/average childhood for a girl, she had chores around the house, had a basic education, went to church as much as her mother, and her best friend, Samantha(Sammy). Jude and Sammy had always been together and had the same ideals, like about 'why we have to go every day?' Other than that Jude grew up as any other puritan child. But as this is a story, there has to be something other than a boring start up with nothing but a boring old average child. This is where the summer of 1727, where Jude is now 15 years old.

Jude had started to feel odd around Sammy, she had felt sick to stomach, and she always felt anxious, but there were sometimes she didn't have them and she finally felt better. It has been happening at the end of spring, but she tries to ignore it for not really understanding it.

It was church time now and Jude and Sammy were bored.  They were both playing around until Jude started to listen in. Their church usually spoke about the Bible and on some occasions talked about what a person sinned on in their colony, is always like that.

"Better to fast and pray upon it, this homesexualiy is to be frowned upon..." The pastor had said, but left Jude in confusion. She turned towards Sammy asking what homosexuality means. "It's when a boy loves a boy or a girl loves a girl. It's the same way we are supposed to love a man," Sammy had said. What was said during church has gotten Jude to think for the rest of the day while she was finishing up her chores and when she was eating supper.

It had been quite to that night when eating with her family, you could only here the silverware hitting the plates and the coughs coming from her father, Elijah Hawke. The silence was broken when Jude finaly got the best of her self. "What was the pastor taking about during church? About homosexuality?" 

The family was shocked out of silence by her question. It took awhile but Elijah started to speak," Well, um." He clears his throat. "Homosexuality is a thing of sin, looked down upon. It's where a man has earnestly desired another man and most of the time cannot think of a woman the same as he thinks of a man. It will also occur with women." All the while, his wife had thought differently, but knew she cannot speak out her thoughts.

For awhile Jude kept to herself, thinking about what her father said, how her mother grew tense, and how her brother's nodded along with their father. Then she started talking," Shouldn't we pity then? They deceive themselves. They fear to take up the shame that they will face. Their love for man, these unholy impulse in their hearts with evil inmates to which their guilt has uncared the door, and which must needs propagate a hellish breed within them." Jude was lucky she realised what the majority think about homosexuality. Bethany(mother) was relieved that she realised it to, she knew that her daughter was like them.

Jude begined to get closer to her mother and farer away from the men in her family. They both knew Jude was gay and had to hide it from everyone else. It took awhile but once they got closer together, Jude told her mother about her crush on Sammy, and by then it was beginning to be fall. That was when Jude became happier than she has in a long time.

It was in the middle of fall when Jude felt like she was suffocating. She told her mom she was going to tell Sammy how she felt and how and would share the same feelings. Of course her mother thought differently, she thought she was gonna tell the colony and get her baby lynched. Sadly she was correct.

It was pretty late at night when Jude told Sammy to meet her in the woods, and at this point Jude was terrified about what is about at was about to happen. She kept on thinking of 'what ifs'. What if she doesn't like me. What if shes disgusted. What if she tells someone. It wasn't helping that she was meeting her at night, where sure can't see her emotions, and can really get lost. It's even worse that the shadows the moonlight is making on the trees are terrifying to look at, and jumping at noises she hears.

When she got to their secret place and saw Sammy there, she felt relief run through her, but she was still nervous. Jude collected all the c courage she had and spoke to Sammy about her feelings and begged for forgiveness. Sammy had said," I will have to think about this but I do not dispise you." Jude felt relieved and bid her goodnight.

What she didn't know was that her brother, Benjamin, was there and that Sammy and him were going to tell the whole town that she had sinned.

The next morning was a grey day and mature reflect it well. There was droppers of water that came down and there was no Happy sun in the sky. By noon every knew of the sinner and was about to make it go away.

It all happened so fast for Jude and her mother, her father and brother's barge into the room they were in asking if it was true, that she had sinned. When they got a panicked and shamed faces, they knew. They quickly picked her up and started dragging her out of the house. Bethany had tried to get them stopped but they were stronger than her and Elijah has kept her back saying,' it it's for the good'.

When they got to a tree and saw the rope they both knew it was the end. People kept on screaming at Jude and telling her it was her own fault. But how do you stop what makes us human and unique.

Bethany started to scream," God gave her into my keeping, I will not give her up!" She tried so hard to stop her baby's death but it wouldn't stop them. What they did would be what we would frown upon now with how we think and what we know.

Going back to Jude, she was terrified, heartbroken, and felt betrayed by her loved ones. But she knew she was done for when she saw the rope, and torches. They were going to hang her then burn her body. She had gone limped and let them kill her. The last thing she had said was "I love you," to her mother.
