The night before Christmas. All the children around the world were sleeping in their warm beds. A small girl awoke with a need for a cold drink. It was as dark as black paper. Darkness seemed to grow. The little girl hid under her comforting covers, scared the boogie man would get her. After what seemed forever, the thirsty girl plucked up the courage and fell silently out of her bed. Her night gown fell down to her feet.

Each step she took, the more frightened she became. Her sweet breath went faster and faster, making her steps quicken more. The place she hated was the top of the stairs because as the bottom the darkness was more apparent and it knocked her sick. If she put the light on she would be safe from the monsters. On the other hand, if she did put the light on her mum would wake up and shout at her. Soon she went down the stairs. No light. Monsters ready to get her. She was shaking as coldness eloped her and the shadows grew enormous.

A little boy awoke from his slumber and into the kitchen he went, to look for food. A small green doll was sat having a tea-party on her own. He looked over, realised he was bored and went to play with it. He wore a peter pan outfit. Neither of the two spoke and enjoyed each company. The little boy loved playing games in the dark but sometimes during the day. As he was playing he never heard a little girl come into the kitchen or the tap running so she can get a drink.

The little girl opened the door and shut it quietly. She breathed out. She had made it. The little boy knocked over the doll and gently picked it back up. The scrawny girl spun toward the sound and accidently dropped her water out of her cup. What she saw were impossible. A boy who was playing with her doll. What made things worse was no boy lived with her and her mum.

The little boy looked up in shock too. What could he say? What could he do?
