"But then what was with all the..." you sputtered for a moment, but then a thought occurred. Your head snapped angrily towards him. "You weren't ever serious about this were you?"
Scoffing, his eyes rolled at how simple your brain could work. "Trust me," he stated, stepping in and grabbing your free hand and planting a kiss to the back of it, "you'd know if I was trying. If you ever truly want to be swept away, you just let me know."
"You knew, but you never told anyone?" Steve thought out loud, both of you simply ignoring the blatant, slightly more Tony-esque flirting. "I don't buy it."
"I can respect privacy," he claimed, but with heated and disbelieving glares coming at him from three sides, he decided to amend the statement slightly. "I've always been a fan of golden opportunities."
Your gaze immediately darted towards Clint, who looked as if all his pent up annoyance and anger towards Tony finally had a sufficient reason to come pouring out. "Clint, I am so sorry," you tired to apologize, but he cut you off.
"You didn't you anything." His focus returned to Tony, who grinned at him with a look that claimed all to be right with the world. "You, however, are an idiot."
Tony laughed, throwing an arm around an un-amused Clint. "Don't worry lover boy, I promise to get you at least three top notch choices before the big night."
"Don't bother," he murmured, throwing the arm off roughly.
As the two continued to banter and bicker back and forth some more, you breathed a sigh of relief. It all could have ended much worse, but you were afraid you did have to agree with Clint completely. Tony was an idiot...but he was your idiot through and through.

It turned out you didn't have to worry about coming clean to the rest of the team. Tony took care of that, which you were ultimately fine with. He at least waited until you were all in a room together so you got to at least see their reactions. Turns out Natasha had figured it out a while ago, even before Tony had acquired his plethora of stolen kisses he recorded, ready for use at your wedding, but you supposed you might have openly gushed about Steve one or two times to her in the period you had been dating. The rest of them took it well, although no one was particularly surprised, which made you pout a little, having thought you had done well at being sneaky, but in the end, you were glad everyone approved.
Tony lived up to his promise of finding matches for Clint, but unlike you predicted, he actually took a liking to one of them, a sweet girl named Laura. You weren't sure how Tony knew her or where she came from, but the fact that she was enough for Clint to swallow his pride against having Tony of all people set him up and consider a date with her was impressive enough.
You were still waiting for the public outbreak of your relationship with Steve. It wasn't that you were purposely hiding it anymore, but you still didn't feel like parading the status around for all to see. Which explained the current situation you were in. There were certainly other perks to finding a quiet place away from the hub of the party, but that was probably the driving force in you and Steve's agreement to slip away and meet up alone.
Due to your sudden decision to run a quick errand, Steve had gotten to the chosen spot first, so you took it as an opportune chance to test your stealth. You crept softly, heels held by your fingers as you moved silently through the mostly dim room, moving ever closer to his outline by the window. You were just a foot away now, smile as large as your lips would let you while simultaneously striving to hold back any sound of laughter. You prepared yourself...and sprung...
And was promptly caught by a pair of strong arms, held against a chest as a rumble formed within it.
"How did you hear me?" you complained as he smiled at you fondly. "I was so sneaky."
"Super hearing," he reminded you. "You might as well have announced yourself."
"Cheater," you grumbled, shoving the freshly retrieved valentine against his face.
He laughed instinctively raising his hand to grab at it. "Well, I can't say it hasn't come in handy." He stared down at the little folded piece of paper, eyes turning with disturbed worry at the Avengers symbol displayed proudly on the front. "What is this?"
"Happy Valentine's Day," you chirped, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before settling back to watch him again. "Open it!"
He laughed softly and shook his head, ultimately complying with the demand. As he did so, his eyes bugged at the illustration of himself, fully decked in superhero costume and fully decked out in muscles, but that wasn't even the best part. "'Let me be the captain of your heart.'"
You smiled, stepping in and wrapping your arms around his torso. "If you insist."
He set the small valentine to the side to return the embrace, not quite sure what to think of your humor, but happy with it all the same. "You never cease to surprise me."
"Ha!" you nearly shouted, finger coming up to point in his face. "You admit I surprised you!"
He shook his head ever so slightly in amusement, but ultimately he just pulled you closer. "Every minute of every day." The two of you finished the space between you by falling into a classic kiss. His arms wrapped tighter about you as your arms slipped up over his shoulders to lead your hands into his hair as it deepened into a slower, more passionate exchange. You knew Tony more than likely was currently adding this to his stockpile, but in the moment, you couldn't bring yourself to care. Something about Steve's lips made the rest of the world seem to melt away until it was just you and your super soldier.
