The Leader's Daughter

Prologue

(Claire Grimes | Age: 14)

I finish up my history test when the announcements come on.

"Attention everyone this is not a drill, we need everyone to evacuate the building. Students please go to your parents and–"

The principal stops then you can barely hear her say, "Oh shit." Before loud banging starts.

"This is not a drill. This is a virus outbreak. Stay in your classrooms until a respected military–"

The assistant principal voice says this time. Then the sounds of a door breaking down and screams follow. My teacher runs out the door, followed by everyone else.

I decide to follow the crowd; running out the classroom door, towards the main doors. I jump over not-so-dead, moving corpses. I get to the doors and see a lot more of corpses coming into the building. I sprint back to the classroom. I barricade myself in the room. I turn to see my PE coach, Coach Clayton.

I see his stomach ripped out. Really?! He's my favorite coach too! I run past him and place a table between us. He slowly limps over to me. I grab a bat that my teacher kept in the room. I swing the bat at the, now rotting, corpse.

I hit his head as he goes down for good. I open a window, climbing out. From there I sprint home. I see Shane, mom, and Carl driving away. "WAIT! WAIT! WAIT!" I yell waving my arms. They just keep driving.

I see more of the zombies. I swing my bat at the first ones head and then the second ones. I run inside and up to my room. I grab my thigh knife holster that my dad gave me for my 13th birthday. Then I grab my compound bow, archers glove, and quiver. I slide my quiver onto my back, and my glove onto my hand.

I grab my bow and my hunting knife. I slide the knife into my knife holster. I then go downstairs and grab my dad's old thigh gun holster. I place one of his old guns into the holster. I hear the glass break, causing me to run out the back door and jump the fence.

I guess I'm on my own now.
