Beep! Beep! Beep! My alarm goes off and I slam my paw onto it. "Ugh" I groan as I sit up. It's only six in the morning. Slowly, I rise out of bed, scratching the red fur on my chest. I eventually end up standing in front of my mirror adjusting a blue tie around my neck. Its not part of the uniform, I just feel like myself if I wear a tie.
I sit on my couch in my living room. I still have about five minutes before Judy shows up to take me to work. She's the one with the car, so she likes to give me a ride. I sit there and go through my phone. Three missed calls from Finnick and one from my mom. I was more surprised with the one from mom. Finnick has the habit of calling every other hour so I'm not too surprised.
My mom has been moving. I was going to help her this weekend, so I'm sure that's what she called about. I was about to put my phone away when Judy walks in the door. "Ready to go?" She pipes up cheerily. I groan. "Judy that key is for emergency's only. What if I was tail naked right now?" She shrugs. "Wouldn't bother me. Now let's go!" She hops back out the door. "Sly bunny" I mumble as I follow her.
We were soon in the bullpen for roll call. Chief Bogo was in charge. He came in and silenced everyone. "Now, we have a few missing mammals and a new case." He proceeds to hand out the files. Its not long before the last two were Judy and myself. "Now, for my two best officers. New case. Drug bust thought to meet up tomorrow morning. You are to stake them out. Here's the file." He hands it to Judy. She quickly takes my paw and drags me to our shared office.
We were one of the few partners with their own office. We got it when we were realized as the best cops in the building. Our desks are against opposite walls, facing away from each other. We take our seats. I push my chair back next to Judy. "So carrots, where we headed?" She opens the folder. "Uh...looks like tundra town. There's lots of crime there, I'm telling ya." I chuckle. "Doesn't your goddaughter live there?" She rolls her eyes. "Yea so?" I drop the subject.
Judy starts going through the file and computer, getting everything ready for the stakeout. I watch her work. She's so energetic and optimistic. Its amazing. Her nose twitches cutely every now and again. Did I think cute?
Well...she is cute. I look into her eyes. Like beautiful amethyst. Wide and hopeful I glance down at her fluffy little tail. I smile as it twitches a little. My eyes drift over her body, analyzing every curve. How did I never notice how good she looks?
I smile when I think about how we met. She was super nice. Heart of gold. Then she showed she's not to be messed with when she hustled me into helping her. She really is the perfect girl. "Nick why are you staring at me?"
I blink, realizing I was staring. "Nothing. I mean, uh. Damn." She giggles. "Silly fox"
That was close! My heart raced when she caught me checking her out. She was a beautiful bunny. Smart, slick, energetic, optimistic, kind. She was the first to believe in me. To care and trust me. Am I falling for this bunny? No...I can't be. Am I? It is an of feeling I get when I'm around her. Like I know I'm safe and comfortable. Like I can trust her with everything. It is a curious feeling. A crush? No not that. Those are different. But what?
My eyes drift over the bunny again. A faint voice in my head slowly spells out a single word. Love.
Do I love Judy? Probably. But what does she feel? She once told me she never dated before. How she never even kissed another animal. I have to admit, I was happy when she said it. But do I have a chance? Do I really have a shot with this perfect bunny? Its not like interspecies relationships are rare. There are lots in Zootopia. You just can't breed with another species, unless there of the same kingdom. Like lions and tigers.
But...what if she wants kids? Adoption! We could adopt. My mind keeps drifting around the problems with us dating. I keep finding ways to convince myself that it would work. I finally come to a conclusion. I'll tell her. Tomorrow, at the stakeout. We'll be alone, together, in a car, for hours. I'll have plenty time to perk up the courage.
"Nick! Eyes off me, jeez. Are you fantasizing or something?" I feel my ears burn in blush. "Just thinking carrots. So...what's the plan?"
