"Mom?" I yell as I enter my apartment.
"In here," she replies from the kitchen. As soon as I round the corner I see her laptop open and tons of books on the counter.
"What's this?" I ask and pick up one of the huge books.
"I told you that we were going to go over statistics and since you don't trust my knowledge I'd assume a book would be more reliable. Oh and give me your phone." I hand her my phone and she puts it in her pocket.
"Mom this is great, but I don't need you to hover over me as I read," I say with a hint of sarcasm.
"No Emma. What's happening today is you are going to teach me what you've learned so far. That way you can be confident in your material," she answers in a matter-of-fact way. Is she out of her mind? Or is this just what non-working moms do?
"Um..ok." I sit down and pull out my notebook from bag. After looking through it, I have no idea where I am supposed to start. "I don't get what you want me to do mom."
"Okay, use your notebook and explain each major topic to me. Once we come across something you don't understand we'll consult the computer or one of the many and VERY expensive books," she answers. I inwardly laugh. Why buy them if they're that expensive?
"Okay..um I'll just start here.." I begin to explain all the topics that I know, saving the ones I struggle with for later.
After about two hours of review, my brain is on the brink of exploding.
"Okay mom, I think I'm good," I tell her. I have to say, I dreaded this review thing, but I actually understand stats alot better now.
"Yeah I think you know what you're talking about now. Are we gonna raise that grade and keep it at an A?"
"Yes mom." I resist the urge to roll my eyes. Does she think I am purposely lowering my grade? I mean c'mon.
"Alright. Go finish your other homework." I pack up my stuff, but before I walk away I know I have one thing left to do.
"Mom...I'm sorry about what I said this morning. I was just..tired," I say apologetically. I feel my ears heat up and I move my hair to cover them.
"And you're not going to say it again?"
"Nope."
"Apology accepted. Now go away, I've had enough of you for one day." I laugh, grateful for her quirkiness. She's always been good at getting out of awkward situations.

"Haha! You're such an idiot Logan," I laugh into the home phone.
"Well I'm okay with being an idiot as long as I'm your idiot," he answers in his seductive voice. I giggle not knowing what to say.
I get off my bed to check on my mom. Good, still asleep. See, math is a tiring subject.
I slowly creep back to my room and shut the door.
"Logan?"
"Still here," I hear him say. Alright Emma now's your chance. If it's too much to bear then just hang up. It's that simple.
"I need to tell you something," I say hesitantly.
"Okay shoot." He sounds so happy and unsuspecting...DO IT EMMA.
"Logan..I don't think we can see each other anymore." I shut my eyes as if it will help soften the blow. A few moments of silence pass before he speaks up.
"Are you breaking up with me?" I cringe at the hurt in his voice.
"Yes." I'm so sorry Logan..
"Why? Did your mom find out? If she did then let me talk to her and let me meet her! I'll be on my best behavior and I promise she will like me and maybe give me a chan-"
"Logan!" I interrupt him before my heart can shatter any more. "It's not my mom."
"Oh..." I can practically hear him thinking. "Is it Cassidy? Did she threaten you again!? I'll deal with her Emma I will. All you have to do is tell me." He sounds so scary that I almost say yes. What is he going to do kill her? That would be nice.
"Emma? Hello?" Oh yeah I'm still on the phone.
"No, it's not Cassidy." It's official. I'm addicted to lying.
"Then what is it Emma? Please work with me here! I don't wanna lose you." Oh Logan you have no idea. What do you say to some thing like that. I can't use Cassidy or my mom as an excuse anymore... Please don't make me do this.
"I just can't take it anymore Logan. All the sneaking around and stuff..it's eating away at my conscience. You deserve someone who is less complicated than me." I wipe away the single tear that has fallen.
"Emma.." I hear his voice crack and my heart takes another hefty blow. Don't cry don't cry don't cry don't cry. "I love you." Holy shit. He did not just drop the L bomb!
"Logan I..."
"You don't have to say it back, but I just wanted you to know." And with those final ground breaking words, he hangs up and his voice is replaced by obnoxious beeping. I slam the phone back on the charger and stare into space.
For the next three hours, I recap my time at Amber Oaks High. Let's see...Girl crashes into smoking hot boy, boy has bitchy girlfriend who comes with a side of loaded threats, boy disses then kisses girl behind girlfriend's back, boy breaks up with girlfriend and gets together with girl, boy and girl sneak around, girlfriend threatens girl again, girl breaks up with boy.
My life is a damn movie.
How did my life go from normal to emotional roller coaster ride of doom in a matter of three weeks!!? I never thought I would say this, but right now I'd rather be living in the ghetto.
Finally, it all comes out. I cry so hard that it feels as if my eyes are going to pop out of my head. I cry and cry and cry until my tears seem to cease and all I am left with is short, ragged breaths and swollen eyes. I feel my eyes begin to close and I realize how exhausted I am from my not-so-little episode. The last thing I hear is Logan's voice laced with hurt, replaying over and over again in my head before I am fast asleep.
