She sat up, in the dark, screaming she didn't remember what had happened in her dream, she almost never does. Jacob, her husband, shoot up and was immediate to her side, holding her while she shook and cried, never once leaving her side till she was done. He's gotten used to waking up with her and he didn't mind he never once complained or turned her away.
She hadn't always had these nightmares, they started around the time she meet Jacob. The first one was horrible she could still remember everything that had happened she never told anyone anything about it. Not even Jacob, who she tells all the nightmares too, that is the ones she remembered.
Her dog started barking and she knew something bad was about to happen, the dog only barked when she woke up and something was wrong. Her poor baby is terrified of whatever it is he sees. She has never seen all of it but she has seen bits and parts of it.
Jacob went to grab the baseball bat but Belle, the girl, stopped him and shook her head. She got up and quickly turned on all the lights. She slowly walked down the stairs, determined to see this creature once and for all.
When she peeked around the corner she saw something that she had not expected to see.
Standing there was this shadow of a person. Her dog was in front of this thing barking and growling. The "person" reached down to grab her dog, "Hey! What are you doing??!" The creature dropped her dog and turned around.
It was dressed in all black with white stripes running up the middle of his shirt. Well, you couldn't tell the sex of the thing because the face was missing. It was just blank.
Belle screamed and stared at the thing. She could sense Jacob near her, trying to talk to her but she couldn't hear anything, she couldn't speak, and she couldn't move. She was frozen.
When Jacob had slapped her she came back to it, she stared at him and could finally hear him.
"What's wrong?" He asked her.
"Di-did you se-see that?" She stuttered. For some reason, it looked familiar to her and that scared her.
"See what? Honey, there was nothing down here, you were just screaming at nothing, it scared the crap out of me."
She did a double take when he said there was nothing there.
"What do you mean there was nothing there?" She asked him.
"Nothing was down here."
"Don't lie to me!" She demanded.
"I'm not! There really was nothing down here."
"DON'T LIE TO ME IT WAS IN HERE! I KNOW IT WAS I SAW IT! I'M NOT CRAZY" Belle shouted. He looked at her opened his mouth, then shook his head. "Ok. Come on let's go to bed now." She nodded her head and let him carry her up.
She waited for him to fall asleep before she got up and started searching on her computer. There wasn't anything she could find, and she was about to give up when she stumbled on a website.
There were tons of articles posted by a numerous amount of people. All describing the same thing, it all started with a dream when they met a guy, sometimes they could remember every detail, and other times they couldn't. They had all reported seeing the same faceless creature. Everybody on here was anonymous so there was no one for her to reach out to. Even the site original owner couldn't be found. After a few hours of searching, she got dressed, wrote a note, got in her car, and went for a drive. She got back 4 hours later and Jacob was nowhere to be seen.
She heard a crash coming from underneath her. The basement.
Jacob had never wanted her to go in the basement, he said it was dangerous and the stairs were old and could fall. In fear of falling she never went down there, that is until today.
She slowly pushed the door open, careful not to make any noise. When she reached the bottom she turned to the left and saw the 'thing' again. She wanted to scream but something told her she shouldn't. So instead she stayed quiet. The 'thing' was talking to an old mirror on the wall, from where she stood she couldn't see if there was anything in the mirror or not.
After about 10 more minutes, she heard a loud crack, and the 'thing' started to turn into her husband Jacob.
Only now did everything start to make sense.
Why the nightmares only started when she met Jacob, why she wasn't allowed to go the basement, why he seemed to know parts of the nightmares that she didn't tell him.
She stayed hidden behind something. It smelt old and dusty but she didn't care, all she cared about was staying hidden. She held her breath when Jacob went to walk past her, he paused for a second and looked around sniffing the air. She stiffened and wanted to cry but didn't dare make a sound. He walked past her and up the stairs, she heard him locking the door and she started to panic.
She decided to look at the mirror, yes she knew it was a stupid thing to do but she didn't care she had to find out more about it. She reached out to touch the mirror but the door slammed open and Jacob came running down the stairs shouting at her to not touch it. She jerked her head to look at him, not seeing the hand sticking out of the mirror. It grabbed her hand right when Jacob had reached her and yanked her back. She stumbled but tried to remain where she was, she stared at Jacob with tears running down both of their faces. At this she got angry, he had no right to cry! He had lied to her and made a fool out of her. She had never been this angry in her life, she saw a ball of light appear behind her, inside the mirror, but she paid no attention to it. Instead, she focused all of her angry on the man in front of her. She slowly pulled her hand out of the mirror and watched his eyes go wide he was terrified. She smirked at him.
In one quick movement, she had her hand free from the mirror and had pushed Jacob up against the wall. She slowly choked him, watching the light go out of his eyes. But something stopped her, she couldn't do it. She doesn't know why but she couldn't kill this man. She dropped him down to the ground, bent down and whispered in his ear, "Run." He shook his head, not wanting to lose her, but she pushed her hand out and said, "I'm so sorry" with one movement his body flew up the stairs and out onto the street. She let one small tear run down her cheek, but quickly wiped it away, she didn't want to be seen as weak.
With all her memories rushing back to her, she turned to the man stepping out of the mirror and walked up to him. He bowed to her and said, "Welcome back boss we've been waiting for you." She nodded in respect and took his hand and led them through the mirror.
"It's good to be back."
