After getting all tucked in to bed, I asked Harper if she would like to hear a story, like every other night I have asked that I have spent with her. This time instead of saying yes as she always did, she paused and then said "Why don't I tell you a story?" Having no idea what Harper could tell, maybe a fairy tail about a princess of some sort, so I let her have a shot at it. But the story was questionable this time. Maybe a fable.

"Once there was a little mouse, tiny thing. Little mouse had a family, a Mummy Mouse, a Poppy mouse, and a older Brother mouse. Little mouse was kicked out of her nest when she was littler. Little mouse was very sad, for no other family would accept little mouse until she came to this family of mouse's who accepted her. Little mouse was very happy, at this family, little mouse acquired brilliant idea, this idea, little mouse thought was the best yet thought in the thinking world of all living mice and maybe even beyond. Something to make little mouse happy for the rest of her life. Little mou-" Mother came into our room in the middle of Harpers story and instructed us to go to bed. We nodded in agreement then turned the lights off.

That night I couldn't stop thinking about Harpers "Little Mouse" Story. I wanted to know the secrete, just like I wanted to know Harpers secret. In the night I asked. "Harper?" There was a long pause. "Yes..?" "What is Little Mouse's secret" "Silly, it's a secret! S-E-C-R-E-T. You know what a secret is, don't you?" I knew she knew that I knew what a secret was, because she would say so all the time, so I just left the conversation in the dark with a long sigh.

Next morning was a quick one, Harper and I got up, get dressed then sat at the table with mother and father while we ate breakfast in the kitchen. Father got a carriage and horses to transport us to the cabin in the woods we would be staying in for the weeks' vacation. So, from there we all grabbed our bags then father put the bags in the carriage then helped Mother, Harper and I before he heaved himself up into the carriage as well.

As the horses clip clopped along the path, The two horses being a mocha brown color with white socks and a white blaze. It was partially quite besides the clip clop of the horses, of course. Mother noticed my uneasiness and decided to try and start a conversation. "Why don't you try to guess what the horses names are Chris, Harper?" She said. We both smiled at this, and decided to try and guess what their names were. "First of all" I said, "are they boys or girls?" Father looked at me with a quick smile and said "the one on the left is a boy, and on the right is a gal" "Ok." I responded. "Ed and Tracy?" "Nope." "Even and lily?" "Keep trying." Finally after a couple of guesses Harper spoke up. "the one on the left is Ted, and the other one on the right is named Lucy." She smiled at this. Father turned and look at her shocked. "
How did you know that Harper?" "They told me." She said that like it was the most normal thing in the world. It was funny, it seemed like Harper knew how the world worked, and it wasn't just that she acted like it, she was right.

Finally we reached our destination way out in the middle of the woods, a little log cabin by a lake with no signs what so ever of any town or human life anywhere, there was definitely plant life and wild life though, one could never escape the view of lush bushes and trees. It seemed to rain here a lot.

"Come children!" Father said as he helped all of us down from the carriage. "Ill go put Lucy and ted away" He winked at Harper at this, and she smiled back. Mother, harper and I took our stuff and headed towards the little cabin. Father got back and showed us the rooms we would be staying in, Harper and I shared a room again, which wasn't bad at all, since we were all alone out in the woods and the nearest town was miles away. So having Harper with me was comforting. Most of the time. Harper ran to go to the bathroom while I started unpacking our stuff into our room. We had bunk beds. As I was unpacking our suit case I came across Harpers box. There was no lock on it what so ever which was sort of odd since Harper wanted No One near it, let alone look inside it. For her that would mean treason. I walked over to the bottom bed with the box and started to open it. But before I could take a peek I could hear Harper walking back to the room thanks to the squeaky wooden floor boards. Quickly snapping the box shut and making my escape to seem that I was very far away from the box as possible just before Harper walked into the room. Harper looked over to the bottom bunk and ran to the bed, grabbing a hold of her box, and with a pinch of anger that was barley recognizable. "Did you open it??" "No..." She stared at me for a bit before looking back at her secret box. "Good.." What was she hiding?

The rest of the day was simple enough with happiness. We ate lunch then father took harper and I out on the lake with a boat the came with the cabin and he taught us how to fish. We were both able to catch what father calls a "Small mouth bass" which Neither Harper or I understood the difference but whatever. Later we ate dinner and went to bed.

The next morning I awoke with a scream from blood curdling scream from Mother. I quickly ran to Mother and fathers part of the cabin in their room to see Father, surrounded by red sheets. But something was wrong, lifeless about him. Then I noticed the sheets weren't suppose to be red. That was blood. HIS, blood. Shocked I stood there, staring at the wound in his chest where his heart was, there was a seemingly brutally piece of string shoved into his heart. Harper walked in and looked at father. Though she seemed unphased.

Through the tears of the rest of the day we learned we cant go home because mother wasn't paying attention and there was a murderer in the very woods they were in, and father was dead. Dead. Gone. Forever. I started to cry while Mother figured out what to do with his body. Harper suggested to put Fathers body in the lake. Mother though it would be easier then digging so... We had a procession while cast fathers body into the lake...

The rest of the day we were on high alert, mother and I scared except for Harper, who herself seemed the same dead as father was in his eyes. At night, no one spoke. Nothing.

In our room, after mother went to bed harper was with her box on the bed and motioned for me to join her on the bottom bunk. Completely shocked that I was soon going to learn about Harpers secret box. She opened it, and inside was four string, all white, but the strings were separated, and one of the strings halves were missing. And in another place in the box was a pair of scissors, and inside the lid of the box, a little note card. I looked over at Harper and all she did was point at the note card and say "Watch." And as I looked over at the note card, to my horror, words started to be written across.

"The second row of string you shall cut and be served happiness, as do the one night before"

I sat in shock as Harper Reached over, grabbed the scissors and the string in the second row and cut it in half. Then, harper got up and walked off. After a bit of the shock wore off I got up and rushed after Harper to where she went. She was walking out of the bedroom and dragged me along with her back to our room in the cabin then sat me down on the bed.

"Little Mouse knew what she had to do to be happy, with her family forever. To assur her happiness forever with that perfect family with Mummy, poppy, and brother mouse. Happiness beyond the grave."

Harper smiled and I watched as she pulled up the third string, and cut it.

Everything went Dark.
