Stepping out of the shadows, I let the sunlight wash over my otherwise cold body. The compound was always cold, and I'm always cold, so I take every chance I can to get. I almost never get to go out, but if mom had any say in it, I'd never be aloud out of the compound. She doesn't know I've found a secret way from the compound. One that keeps me inside and let's me in the sun.

"Beth, Beth are you here?" I heard his voice ringing through the cold halls. I looked down as he walked by. I was very tempted to scare him, but I overcame the urge.

"Up here." I said monotony

Cash whipped around to look up at me. He had a questioning look on his face, almost pondering how I got up to where I am. I swung down and landed beside him.

"How did you get up there?" He asked.

I narrowed my eyes. "Cash I can teleport."

"I know that, I remember you once telling me you needed space for at least two people in order to teleport somewhere." He looked at me coyly.

"What did you want? You took all the time to find me, it must be important." I said, changing the subject and climbing onto a railing to sit on it once again.

"You missed combat practice today, I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

"I'm fine, my life doesn't revolve around combat training Cash." I snorted, standing on the railing.

"Beth, where is your head? You're one of Ezra's best fighters."

"Ezra...pissed me off yesterday, I want him to realize how much he needs me." I murmured, climbing higher.

"Wait, Ezra pissed you off an now your going to hide away until he asks you to come back? Annabeth do you realize how petty that is?" Cash seethed at he tried to follow me.

"Yep." I said, swinging unto another bar.

"Annab-"

In his haste, Cash misjudged distance of the bar, and began to fall. I spun, hanging from my legs, grabbing his wrist before he fell any further. I yanked him onto the bar with me and he sat, gasping for breath. I sat up next to him.

"Thanks Beth." He gasped. I nodded.

"Ezra did piss me off, but, I-" I trailed off, remembering what happened.

The pain in my face as he slapped me, the bruises on my abdomen from him kicking me after I fell to the floor, the cracking of my ribs as he relentlessly kicked me. I shuddered, feeling the bile rise in my throat. Cash doesn't know that I would pay for missing today. I was really hiding from Ezra, Cash just happened to find me. The more I thought about it, the sicker I became. Cash turned to face me.

"Beth, is something wrong?" He asked me.

"N-no." I stammered.

"Something you may have missed in practice today, I have a new power, emotion sensing. So much loathing and fear is wafting off you, one would think you're scared. Are you?"

"No, who would I be scared of?" I lied.

"I don't know." Cash shrugged. "Kamara, Twilight, any person you think is better than you."

I rolled my eyes and looked away from him, trying to push my feelings down so he couldn't sense anything.

"Now you're trying to hide your feelings from me." Cash said annoyingly.

"Well if your trying to invade my privacy with your new power, it's just going to make me trust you less, Cash." I hissed.

"Okay, fine, I won't use it on you." he said, raising his hands in surrender.
